Hello!

This is the Korea Tourism Travel Newspaper.

Today, following our previous introduction to 'Kite Flying,' we'd like to introduce you to another traditional Korean game: 'Gossaum Nori'!

Gossaum Nori in Chilseok, Gwangju, is designated as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage!

The name signifies two 'Go' structures colliding and fighting. 'Go' refers to a long strand shaped into a circle and tied.

Example images provided by the Gossaumnori Preservation Association

The game involves two teams, representing the East (male) and the West (female). It is said that a bountiful harvest is expected when the West team, symbolizing women, wins.

Its excellence and tradition have been recognized, as it was demonstrated at the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Olympic Games opening ceremony!
