Mongsan, Amisan, and Gujeolsan Parking Information
In December 2024, the Chinese Hackberry community in Dangjin was designated as a National Forest Cultural Asset. Additionally, the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail passes through Amisan Mountain, and Gujeolsan Mountain is a famous cherry blossom spot where cherry blossoms bloom profusely in spring.
Currently, in November, as autumn deepens, the autumn foliage is beautifully colored, urging people to go on autumn foliage trips. Welcome news for those who frequently visit the mountains! Let's lightly enjoy Mongsan and Amisan.
Climbing mountains is the best healing and exercise that can be enjoyed in all four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. Among them, we'll start by visiting Mongsan Mountain.
Mongsan Fortress, also called Seongsan, spans Myeoncheon-myeon Seongsan-ri, Songhak-ri, and Sunseong-myeon Seongbuk-ri and Baekseok-ri. It is 299m above sea level, adjacent to Amisan Dabulsan at 320m.
You can hike only Mongsan, or you can connect it with the Dabulsan Amisan ridge. At the end of last October, a parking lot was built on Mongsan, which was somewhat insufficient compared to the number of visitors.
A total of 38 spaces are available at 1012 Seongsan-ri, Myeoncheon-myeon, at the entrance to Mongsanseong Marut-gil. Accessibility is also good from the village behind Myeoncheon Elementary School and the entrance to Mongsan.
There are two parking spaces for the disabled adjacent to the mountain, and 36 compact spaces are arranged side by side on the left and right of the access road. The village road is directly connected from the parking lot, and Mongsanseong Marut-gil begins to the left.
It is said that Mongsan was named Mongsan because the mountain peaks are blunt, and a legend about the blunt change is also passed down. The Mongsanseong Marut-gil passes through the Naepo Donghak-gil at the Songhak 2-ri Village Hall from Myeoncheon-eupseong.
After reaching the summit, you will almost circle back to the parking lot in the direction of Goljeongji.
After lightly tasting the pine forest from the parking lot, we headed to the Amisan parking lot. With the news of the creation of the Mongsan parking lot, we toured the parking lots of Amisan and Gujeolsan.
Dangjin City has been creating and operating parking facilities to help hiking in Dangjin, such as Eunbongsan, Gujeolsan, and Mongsan, starting with the Amisan Jukdong-ri parking lot in 2010. The Jukdong-ri parking lot was built on Amisan in 2010, and Seongbuk-ri was also built in 2022.
This is the largest parking lot with the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail Amisan Visitor Center. It was built first and is the largest with 104 spaces. It is also the place visited by the most people, including those climbing Amisan and those walking the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail.
Naepo Cultural Forest Trail Dangjin Center Baekje Revival Army Road Course 9 is guided. It is 0.7km to the Amisan resting area, and Mongsan, which I visited a little while ago, is 4km away. The ridge continues from Amisan to Mongsan.
The parking lot is rather quiet on a late weekend afternoon. Due to the nature of hiking that starts early in the morning, many people had already descended.
As expected, after parking in the parking lot, I briefly enjoyed the autumn of Amisan. Pass the Naepo Cultural Forest Trail Visitor Center and Ami Happiness Education Center, and the Amisan hiking trail is signposted up the hill.
It was the section of the Amisan hiking course that most people climb. I have climbed Amisan 3-4 times through this path. Even on cloudy days, the yellow autumn leaves of the ginkgo trees are colorful, and the Amisan ridge is becoming darker brown in places between the evergreen pine trees.
The Amisan parking lot was built in Seongbuk-ri in the Sunseong direction in 2022, following Jukdong-ri. It is near the Seongbuk-ri 1-gu Village Hall and has a total of 64 spaces. Previously, when traveling by car in the opposite direction of Amisan from Jukdong-ri, you would have to go halfway around Amisan for 12 km.
Arrive along a quiet rural village narrow road. Autumn leaves are colored everywhere, and Amisan begins in front of the parking lot. You can comfortably climb Amisan in the Sunseong direction.
Amisan is the highest peak in Dangjin City at 351m above sea level, and forms a mountain range with Dabulsan, which means there are many Buddhas on the mountain, and Mongsan, where the Chinese Hackberry community is located, which is the Jinsan of Myeoncheon-gun during the Joseon Dynasty.
The last place I visited was the Gujeolsan parking lot in Bongseong-ri, Sunseong-myeon. Gujeolsan is a famous cherry blossom spot that starts on a one-lane road and extends to the Gujeolsan ridge.
I highly recommend enjoying it when the cherry blossoms bloom in spring. A large parking lot has been created at the entrance to the Gujeolsan hiking trail between the cherry trees. From the parking lot, you can see the autumn foliage colored brown at the entrance to the hiking trail. Although the autumn foliage was quite pretty, not many people climb the autumn mountain.
Dangjin has a total of 5 parking lots for trekking and hiking convenience, including Mongsan, Amisan, Gujeolsan, and Eunbongsan, which I haven't introduced yet. Located at the entrance to the hiking trail, you can enjoy a more comfortable hike.
