Dosol Square: An Oasis of Nature in the Heart of Cheonan

Experience the beauty of nature, even in the city center.
Location: 119 Sinbu-dong, Dongnam-gu, Cheonan-si, Chungcheongnam-do
When you're looking for an autumn stroll, what kind of place do you seek out?
I personally enjoy places where I can feel the beauty of nature even within the city, while also having access to various cultural activities and exercise options.
Cheonan has a special place that meets all these criteria: Dosol Square, located in Sinbu-dong, Dongnam-gu. In November, with autumn's charm in full swing, I took a walk through Dosol Square amidst the colorful foliage.
Upon arriving at Dosol Square, you're first greeted by stone sculptures with the inscription 'Dosol Square' and vibrant red maple trees.
Tall pine trees and shrubs that turn red in the fall create an autumnal atmosphere right from the park's entrance. The contrast between the blue sky and the red foliage is truly striking.
As you enter the park, you'll find a sign explaining the origin of the name 'Dosol'.
'Dosol' is the old name of Cheonan. During the 34th year of King Chungnyeol of the Goryeo Dynasty, parts of Cheonwon-gun and Boeun-gun were combined to create a new county, which was called Dosol.
It feels meaningful that they use a name that contains Cheonan's history. Behind the sign, you can see trees colored by autumn, creating a harmony between history and nature.
Dosol Square is well-equipped with various exercise facilities. The first one I encountered was the lawn gateball field.
When I visited, several citizens were enjoying a friendly game of gateball.
The sight of people exercising on the vast lawn under the blue sky looked peaceful and relaxing. In the background, you can see the apartments of Sinbu-dong, and the yellowing grass and surrounding trees add to the seasonal atmosphere.
After passing the gateball field, I took a walk along the promenade. As befits autumn, trees colored in yellow, red, and orange lined both sides of the path.
Combined with the trees that still retain their green color, it boasts a diverse palette of colors, like a painting. Walking along the promenade naturally makes you fall into the romance of autumn.
Next to the promenade, there is a public restroom designed in clean, brown wood tones.
It doesn't detract from the park's atmosphere, and it is well-equipped with practical facilities, making it comfortable to stay for a long time. The red trees in the background go well with the restroom building.
Walking further into the park, you'll find an octagonal pavilion with a traditional atmosphere.
Located on a high point, it also serves as an observatory where you can look around. The traditional Korean-style tiled roof and wooden pillars maintain our elegance even in a modern park. The mountains and pine trees in the background create a serene atmosphere that blends well with the pavilion.
Dosol Square shows careful consideration for the health of its citizens in many places. There are signs that guide you on the correct way to walk and stretch, which would be beneficial to refer to while exploring the park. Behind it, you can see tall apartment complexes, reminding you once again that this is a park in the city center.
On one side of the park, there was a banner announcing the repair work for the underground parking lot. The Cheonan City Parks and Greenery Division is carrying out facility improvements and construction work with Daeryuk Development, the construction company. You can feel their efforts to ensure the safety and convenience of citizens. Behind the banner, trees colored with autumn hues stand densely.
The most impressive landmark of Dosol Square is this overpass.
It is a rare asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge, and the asymmetry with cables extending only to one side gives you a sense of both uniqueness and grandeur.
The modern and sophisticated design serves as a symbol of Dosol Square. This overpass also plays an important role in connecting the park to downtown Sinbu-dong.
In the center of the park, the Korean flag is hoisted high. The Korean flag fluttering against the blue sky is truly magnificent. On both sides, metasequoia trees, which turn brown in the fall, are lined up, and the promenade continues. Passing under the Korean flag makes you feel patriotic. Behind it, you can see a partition wall covering the construction site.
Dosol Square has an outdoor stage for cultural and artistic performances.
The curved roof has a unique design, and the circular stage is impressive.
Various cultural and artistic performances, including the Cheonan Arts Festival, are held here. It would be really romantic to watch a performance outdoors on a nice day. Around the stage, there are brick-stepped seats.
After passing the outdoor stage, you'll find another attraction of Dosol Square: the outdoor climbing arena. The towering artificial rock wall with colorful holds looks like a work of art. Various colors of holds, such as red, yellow, blue, and green, are arranged, making it visually enjoyable. Under the arena, there is a stage-like structure that allows for simple performances, making the space highly usable. The mountains and trees colored by autumn form the background.
Throughout Dosol Square, there are exercise equipment that citizens can freely use. Clean white exercise equipment is placed along the promenade, so you can exercise briefly while taking a walk. Around it, there are trees that have turned red and yellow in the fall, and in the background, you can see the apartment complexes of Sinbu-dong.
Dosol Square is also well-equipped with a badminton court. Unlike other places with green urethane, the court has a blue background and red lines, adding a special touch. The clear color contrast makes the court's sophistication and clarity stand out. The court is surrounded by trees colored by autumn, and in the background, you can see mountains and apartments.
Next to the badminton court is the basketball court. Here, too, the floor is blue with red lines, creating a unified design. There are basketball hoops installed, and the area is surrounded by a high fence, so you can exercise safely. In the background, the Korean flag is fluttering, and a cool landscape unfolds with the mountains as a backdrop.
Today, I walked through Dosol Square, which is perfect for autumn. It is a great place for the whole family to enjoy, with various exercise facilities and cultural spaces. In particular, taking a walk with the colorful autumn foliage allows you to fully experience the romance. How about spending a relaxing autumn day at Dosol Square, which serves as the gateway to Cheonan?
