Located in the Shinbuk-myeon area of Pocheon, Gyeonggi-do, Nanam Arboretum is a tranquil destination that offers deep relaxation amidst its vast 200,000-pyeong of nature.
This place, characterized by walking paths among dense trees and a literary ambiance, is gaining attention as a healing course near the metropolitan area, perfect for a leisurely weekend drive with family or friends.
Upon entering the arboretum, visitors are greeted by a striking grove of 70,000 birch trees reaching towards the sky. The white trunks and green leaves create an ideal environment for contemplation as one strolls along the birch forest path.
Additionally, the 3,300-plus Korean red pines, which spread their branches like umbrellas, seasonal flowers in bloom, and the whimsical 'Smiling Rock Face' add diverse attractions that enhance the joy of walking.
One of the most unique features of Nanam Arboretum is the Nanam Book Museum, located in the heart of the arboretum. This museum, filled with the fruits of 40 years of publishing history, houses an extensive collection of humanities and social science books, along with the nostalgic scent of analog paper that reflects the twists and turns of modern history.
The walking path outside the museum is adorned with stone sculptures and literary quotes from famous authors, creating the feeling of wandering through an outdoor gallery set within nature.
Before visiting, it's essential to check the operational hours and fees. The arboretum operates from 9 AM to 6 PM during the summer season, with the last admission at 5 PM. Entry fees are affordable at 6,000 won for adults, 4,000 won for seniors and groups, and 3,000 won for children. The arboretum is closed every Monday and is closed for winter from December to February, so planning ahead is crucial.
The interior paths of the birch forest are natural dirt trails with inclines, so if you are accompanied by someone with mobility issues or a stroller, it is recommended to explore the flatter viewing paths and the greenhouse garden near the entrance. A dedicated parking lot is available for those traveling by car.
