How many of the Eight Scenic Wonders of Danyang have you visited? Danyang's representative attractions, the Eight Scenic Wonders of Danyang #1
Seokmun (Stone Gate)
Seokmun, one of the Eight Scenic Wonders of Danyang, literally means "stone gate"
and was designated as a Scenic Site on September 9, 2008.
Located upstream from Dodamsambong, on the left side of the Namhangang River,
it is a rainbow-shaped stone pillar with a height of tens of feet,
and the surrounding scenery is also a beautiful attraction in Danyang.
Seokmun was once a large limestone cave,
but over time, the cave collapsed,
leaving only the entrance.
Did you know that Seokmun, one of the Eight Scenic Wonders of Danyang,
has a legend about Magohalmi (Grandma Mago)?
In the lower left part, there is a small cave where Magohalmi, who came down from the heavens to fetch water
and lost her hairpin, is said to have lived.
It is said that she dug the ground with her hands to find her hairpin, creating 99 fields of rice paddies,
and crossed the Namhangang River by placing stepping stones.
Magohalmi lived here, enjoying alcohol, tobacco, and the beautiful scenery,
and it is said that she turned into a rock after she died. At Seokmun, there is a Magohalmi rock in the shape of her holding a long smoking pipe
and a bottle of alcohol.
In front of Seokmun, there is a photo zone
with the beautiful scenery as a backdrop!
We recommend taking your best shots here.
Dodamsambong
Dodamsambong, the three peaks
most loved among the Eight Scenic Wonders of Danyang!
This place, which can be said to be the best of the Eight Scenic Wonders of Danyang,
is where Jeong Do-jeon, a meritorious subject in the founding of the Joseon Dynasty, spent his childhood,
and it is known that he loved it so much that
he gave himself the pen name 'Sambong'.
Later generations erected a statue of him here
so that he could always look at Danyang Dodamsambong.
Dodamsambong was designated as a National Scenic Site in 2008,
and it is a place where poets and artists have enjoyed visiting since ancient times
because the Namhangang River, Sobaeksan Mountain, and the surrounding scenery are well harmonized.
You can visit and enjoy this place at any time,
but if you appreciate it with the morning mist in early spring and autumn,
you can enjoy a very mysterious and subtle atmosphere,
and it is even more special to be with the sunrise
rising from Sobaeksan Mountain.
Gudambong
Gudambong, famous for its turtle rock reflected in the river,
is named Gudam, meaning "turtle in the lake,"
because the bizarre rock cliffs reflected in the river resemble a turtle shell.
The peak that boasts a magnificent and beautiful figure
at the point with the most outstanding scenery among the rivers of Korea
is none other than Danyang Gudambong.
National Route 36 from Danyang-eup to Gudambong
is so beautiful that it has been selected as one of Korea's '100 Most Beautiful Roads'.
Yi Hwang, a scholar of the late Goryeo Dynasty, praised it, saying that the 'Eight Views of Xiaoxiang' in China
could not be better than this.
Breathe in the fresh air in nature
and have a happy time!
Sainam
Danyang Sainam, a colorful, folding screen-like 50-meter cliff,
is proudly located in the clear and blue Namjocheon rapids.
Even though it is granite, it is made of brown, green, and gray colors
and is divided horizontally and vertically,
showing off a very rare appearance.
Due to these joints, traces of collapsed rocks can be easily found
in various parts of the rock,
the fallen rocks are brown, and especially the lower part
is very severe.
Yeokdong Woo Tak, a writer from the late Goryeo Dynasty,
was from Danyang and often visited this place,
and to commemorate this, Lim Jae-gwang, the governor of Danyang during the reign of King Seongjong of the Joseon Dynasty,
named it Sainam, citing the rank of Jeong 4-品.
