I can't believe it's already 2025!
It feels like just yesterday I said that, but already three weeks have passed.
As the New Year begins, we all have that desire to make wishes for the year and visit places to receive good energy, right?
Especially in Busan, there are many beautiful temples harmonized with nature, making it perfect for finding peace of mind and recharging with New Year's energy.
Today, I'm going to introduce you to three special temples in Busan where you can receive good energy for the New Year. I've also prepared tips for visiting each temple!
Brahma Temple (Beomeosa Temple): A Thousand-Year-Old Temple
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple: Touching the Sea
Samgwangsa Temple: A Temple in the City
Brahma Temple (Beomeosa Temple): A Thousand-Year-Old Temple Embraced by Geumjeong Mountain
Located at 250 Beomeosa-ro, Geumjeong-gu, Busan, Beomeosa Temple is a temple with a thousand-year history.
With its tranquil temple atmosphere and the fresh air of Geumjeong Mountain, you can not only calm your mind but also receive plenty of New Year's energy.
Beomeosa Temple has many cultural assets such as the Daeungjeon (main hall) and the Three-Story Stone Pagoda, making it fun to explore and great for taking pictures.
Also, if you walk along the trails behind the temple, you can calm your mind in nature, and there are many famous photo spots throughout.
Especially in summer, the greenery becomes lush, and in autumn, the maple leaves turn vibrant, making it a beautiful temple.
Brahma Temple (Beomeosa Temple) Visiting Tip
The parking lot and the temple are a bit far apart.
It is convenient to use the free shuttle bus after parking. Check the schedule in advance!
If you want to make a New Year's wish, visit the Daeungjeon!
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple: A Mysterious Temple Touching the Sea
Located at 86 Yonggung-gil, Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, famous as a temple on the sea, is the perfect place to make New Year's wishes with the open East Sea as a backdrop. (It's said to be the temple where the sun rises first in Korea!)
There's a story that a dragon king appeared in the dream of the Seon Master Hyegeun in the late Goryeo period, and there's also a legend that a dragon ascended to the sky at Haedong Yonggungsa Temple!
Perhaps because it's the closest temple to the sea, mysterious stories seem to follow.
Many people come to Haedong Yonggungsa Temple to pray for wealth, health, and family happiness. There are various places to make wishes throughout the temple.
How about lighting incense to pray for good luck and make a wish, or trying your luck with a coin toss at the entrance?
Temples that touch the sea are not a common sight worldwide, so it has become a popular spot always bustling with foreigners.
After taking a stroll around, let's look out at the open sea and make a wish for the new year :)
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple Visiting Tip
The path along the coastal cliffs can be slippery.
It's good to wear non-slip shoes or sneakers.
It is relatively quiet if you visit on weekday mornings.
Samgwangsa Temple: A Temple in the City Filled with Lotus Lanterns
Located at 77 Choeupcheon-ro 43beon-gil, Busanjin-gu, Busan
Located below Baekyang Mountain in downtown Busan, Samgwangsa Temple is a temple that combines modern sensibility and traditional beauty.
Around Buddha's Birthday, the temple grounds are brilliantly decorated with a lantern festival full of colorful lotus lanterns.
People come from abroad to see this sight, so the excitement is enormous, right?
Samgwangsa Temple is accessible by bus, car, or on foot, so its accessibility as a temple near downtown Busan is one of its advantages, allowing for a short visit.
Hanging a lotus lantern with your wishes for the New Year will be a special memory :)
Samgwangsa Temple Visiting Tip
The lights are more beautiful if you visit in the evening.
If it's around Buddha's Birthday, visit during the festival period!
It's a beautiful temple even outside of the festival period.
From the tranquil Beomeosa Temple to the scenic Haedong Yonggungsa Temple by the sea, to the tranquility within the splendor of Samgwangsa Temple!
We've looked at three temples representing Busan, all of which are places where you can receive plenty of good energy for the New Year with their respective charms.
This weekend, visit a nearby temple, make a New Year's wish, and fill yourself with good energy!
