Discovering Moon Cafe in Munbaek-myeon

Did you know that there's a famous café in Munbaek? It's called 'Moon Cafe' and is located on the second floor of the Munbaek Multipurpose Welfare Center, right next to the Munbaek Welfare Center. I discovered it while visiting the welfare center, and it turns out it's already well-known in the area. The desserts made from black rice grown in Munbaek have gained popularity and were even featured on the TV program 'My Home at 6 PM.'
Moon Cafe is a cozy book café that operates from Monday to Saturday, excluding Sundays. The parking space in front of the welfare center is ample, making it convenient for visitors. The first floor of the multipurpose welfare center also has a jjimjilbang (Korean sauna) that locals use during the week, and it can be rented out like a pension on weekends.
Moon Cafe is operated by the Munbaek Agricultural Cooperative, serving not just as a café but also as a resting and meeting space for the residents of Munbaek. Its various desserts made from locally grown black rice have become so popular that people from other regions visit specifically to try them.
As soon as I entered the café, the subtle aroma of coffee filled the air, creating a pleasant atmosphere. True to its name as a book café, it offers a selection of books to enjoy with a cup of coffee. The charming coffee accessories and unique tables also catch the eye, making it a perfect spot to relax.
At Moon Cafe, you can enjoy a variety of coffees and beverages at reasonable prices. Their signature items, including black rice doughnuts, black rice bread, and black rice red bean bread, are particularly popular and pair wonderfully with coffee.
I was excited to take home some of their delicious black rice doughnuts, but unfortunately, they were sold out on the day I visited. I regretted not coming a bit earlier! The most popular item, the black rice doughnut, has a soft and chewy texture that is incredibly tasty. Sprinkled with sugar, it makes for a delightful snack that everyone can enjoy.
In November of last year, Munbaek started a new project to develop a signature dessert, following the success of the black rice doughnut. The goal is to provide healthy food for residents and attractive local dishes for visitors by utilizing Munbaek's unique agricultural products. I am already looking forward to trying the new desserts that reflect the essence of Munbaek. If you find yourself in the area, be sure to visit Moon Cafe!
