Hello! I'm a Jincheon-gun SNS supporter. Today, I'd like to introduce you to Jincheon Jeong Song-gang Shrine, Chungcheongbuk-do Monument No. 9, located in Munbaek-myeon, Jincheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do. This shrine enshrines the mortuary tablet of Songgang Jeong Cheol and is a great place for outdoor activities and a fun outing with children.
If you are driving to Jincheon Jeong Song-gang Shrine, enter the address 531 Bongjuk-ri, Munbaek-myeon, Jincheon-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do into your navigation system. It is located about 10 minutes from Jincheon-gun Office. There is a large free parking lot at Jincheon Jeong Song-gang Shrine, so you can park conveniently and walk inside.
If you are coming by public transportation, take bus number 240 from the bus stop in front of Jincheon-gun Office (travel time is about 16 minutes), get off at the Jeong Song-gang Shrine bus stop, and walk slowly for about 3 minutes.
Jincheon Jeong Song-gang Shrine is a shrine enshrining the mortuary tablet of Songgang Jeong Cheol. Jeong Cheol was a politician of the Joseon Dynasty who served as Left State Councillor. He was a literary figure along with Kim In-hu, passed the civil service examination in the 16th year of King Myeongjong's reign, served as a secret royal inspector in Hamgyeong-do after serving as Jipyeong, and is known to have received the royal favor of Saga Dokseo with Yulgok.
During the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592, Songgang Jeong Cheol escorted the king to Uiju and devoted himself to overcoming the national crisis as a commissioner. While Songgang Jeong Cheol served as governor of Gangwon-do and then Jeolla and Hamgyeong-do, he demonstrated his natural literary talent by writing Gwandongbyeolgok and Hunminga. Later, he retired to his hometown and left behind many gasa and danga poems, including Samingok and Sokmiingok.
Songgang Jeong Cheol's tomb was originally located in Sinwon-ri, Wondang-myeon, Goyang-gun, Gyeonggi-do. In the 6th year of King Hyeonjong's reign (1665), Uam Song Si-yeol chose the current tomb site, and his descendant Jeong Yang relocated the tomb and built a shrine. However, the shrine was small, so it was completely renovated and purified in 1979. The shrine is a wooden 19-pyeong 맞배 roof, and the museum is a cement 32-pyeong 팔작 roof.
For reference, there are Songgang Jeong Cheol's tomb and stele near the shrine. Songgang's silver cup, jade cup, 65 days of Yeonhaenggigi, and handwritten letters are preserved and displayed. To the left of Songgangsa, you can climb about 300m along a path overgrown with dry reeds to see Songgang's tomb. Jincheon Jeong Song-gang Shrine, located in such a beautiful landscape, allows you to learn a lot from the past and present, so I hope that our precious cultural heritage will be well preserved and passed on to future generations.
