Discovering Jeju's Hidden Photo Spots: Kimnyeong Sea Road and More

These days, travel trends lean towards capturing that perfect 'shot of a lifetime' at picturesque locations, alongside experiencing nature firsthand. With that in mind, here are four must-visit photo spots in Jeju Island. Add them to your itinerary!
1. Kimnyeong Sea Road
Hidden in the village of Kimnyeong-ri, Jeju, lies the Kimnyeong Sea Road, a fantastic photo spot. If you time your visit with the tides, you'll witness a path opening up between the sea, a route used by the local female divers (Haenyeo). Thanks to drone footage on social media and its appearance as a drama filming location, it's gaining popularity.
✔ Location: Kimnyeong-ri 1346
✔ Parking: Difficult, narrow alleyways
✔ Features: Sea road that opens at low tide
✔ Nearby Attractions: Cheonggulmul, Segi Beach
Walking along Kimnyeong Sea Road, you'll be greeted by the blue sea on both sides. In the distance, you can enjoy the sight of the wind turbines at Kimnyeong Beach turning energetically.
The key is to align your visit with the tide. If you come during high tide, the path disappears, leaving you with just an ordinary sea view. So, it's recommended to visit during low tide.
Also, be aware that the ground can be very slippery due to constant water exposure. Take caution to avoid falling.
2. Cheonggulmul
After exploring Kimnyeong Sea Road, consider visiting the nearby Cheonggulmul photo zone. It's about 400m away, a 5-minute walk.
You can walk, or drive to the parking area. There's a small parking lot near Cheonggulmul, but navigating the narrow alleys can be inconvenient. I usually search for Kimnyeong-ri 1296-3.
Here, you'll find a spacious open area, making parking easier as you avoid the narrow alleys! It's also a short walk away.
Park and walk along the seaside path. Follow the Kimnyeong Geo Trail signs.
You'll walk along a charming village path with cobalt blue seas and conch shells placed on stone walls.
Each stone wall exudes a sense of tranquility, and the atmospheric alley is part of the Jeju Olle Trail Course 20, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll. The path also connects to Kimnyeong Metal Craft Mural Village, so take your time and explore if you have time.
It took about 5 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the Cheonggulmul photo zone. Unfortunately, I didn't check the tide times, so I couldn't enter due to high tide!
At low tide, you can sit and relax or dip your feet in the water. It's primarily a photo spot and doesn't offer many attractions, but it's close to Kimnyeong Sea Road, cafes with great sea views, and the Olle Trail Course 20, making it a place I often visit.
3. Changgeom Rock
Not far from Kimnyeong-ri, you'll find the Bukchon-ri Changgeom Rock photo zone. It's about a 10-minute drive, making it a great course to visit in a day.
Search for Jocheon-eup Bukchon-ri 393-2 to find the exact location of Jeju Changgeom Rock. There's no designated parking area, but you can park along the roadside.
Upon arrival, you'll see a large red arrow pointing towards Changgeom Rock, making it easy to find.
Do you know the meaning of 'Changgeom'? It's a Jeju dialect word for 'window.' The rock is called Changgeom Rock because it has a window-like hole in it.
When you see it in person, it looks like someone carved a perfect circle. The view of the sea and Daryeodo Island through the hole is beautiful, and if you go at sunset, it transforms into a romantic photo zone.
A word of caution: the area around Changgeom Rock is full of basalt rocks, so there's a risk of falling. Also, don't go in and out of the hole. I once hit my head on the top while trying to get out!
4. Songdang Mukkeunmoru
In Songdang-ri, eastern Jeju, there's a photo spot that no one would know about unless they intentionally seek it out: the Songdang Mukkeunmoru photo zone!
The backdrop of fields and surrounding oreums (volcanic cones) seen through the trees and bushes has made it a popular photo spot on social media for years. It used to be a popular spot for wedding and snap photography, but its popularity has waned.
The location of Jeju Songdang Mukkeunmoru is Songdang-ri 2149.
A word of caution: the road leading in is a narrow forest road, and parking on the side of the road can obstruct traffic, so be considerate.
There are several cafes with a great atmosphere near Songdang Mukkeunmoru, such as Cafe Andor and Inter Forest. It's a good idea to grab a coffee, use their parking lot, and take photos. Also, Andol Oreum Secret Forest and Jeju Fairy Tale Village are nearby, so visit them together.
All four photo zones are great places to stop by and take pictures. They don't offer spectacular attractions, so if they fit into your travel route, stop by without high expectations. I hope you create many beautiful memories.
