Embrace the tranquil autumn scenery of Myeoncheon with a visit to Goljeongji Pond and Myeoncheon Confucian School.
Located in Myeoncheon-myeon, Dangjin-si, Goljeongji Pond offers a serene lakeside view. It's a popular spot in spring when cherry blossoms bloom around the lake, drawing large crowds.
Today, I visited to capture the peaceful autumn atmosphere of Goljeongji Pond.
Goljeongji Pond is known to have been maintained during Yeonam Park Ji-won's tenure as the magistrate of Myeoncheon. It's a local attraction showcasing different seasonal landscapes. In autumn, the reflection of nature on the water's surface creates a calm ambiance, perfect for a relaxing stroll.
A well-maintained path surrounds Goljeongji Pond, making it accessible for everyone. Resting areas are available, allowing visitors to pause and admire the scenery.
In the center of the reservoir, there's a thatched-roof pavilion connected by a narrow stone path, wide enough for two people to walk side by side.
Handrails are installed for safety, ensuring a comfortable passage.
Exercise equipment is also available near the walking path, making it suitable for daily use by local residents.
Unlike the lush lotus leaves in summer, Goljeongji Pond in autumn offers a calmer, more refined feel, showcasing a different charm each season.
Along the walking trail, there are informative signboards introducing the life and achievements of Yeonam Park Ji-won.
Records left by his son, Park Jong-chae, reveal that Yeonam implemented policies for the benefit of the people during his time as the magistrate of Myeoncheon. His people-centered consideration, such as simplifying rituals and addressing the grievances of the unfairly accused, has been passed down through generations.
Walking along the Goljeongji Pond trail naturally leads to Myeoncheon Confucian School. Passing through rural paths with rice paddies, you'll encounter the Hongsalmun gate and traditional architecture.
Myeoncheon Confucian School was established in the early Joseon Dynasty and features a structure combining ceremonial and educational functions. It houses Daeseongjeon (main shrine), Myeongnyundang (lecture hall), Dongmu and Seomu (eastern and western shrines), and Dongjae and Seojae (eastern and western dormitories). Traditional rites are held every spring and autumn.
Although the entrance is locked, preventing internal viewing, you can still appreciate the tranquil atmosphere from beyond the walls.
Next to the Confucian school is Hakgojae, which was used as a study space for Confucian scholars. It currently serves as a local cultural space, hosting various programs such as calligraphy classes and Chinese literature education.
Goljeongji Pond and Myeoncheon Confucian School are located close to each other, making it ideal to visit both. A peaceful lakeside walk combined with exploring a historic Confucian school creates a course where you can fully experience the beauty of autumn.
If you're looking to enjoy a quiet walk while experiencing the changing seasons, I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll through these two places in Myeoncheon.
