When you think of a trip to Dangjin, turning back after just seeing the sea means you are only experiencing half of its true charm.

Behind the blue landscapes of the West Coast lies Myeoncheon Fortress, built in 1439 during the reign of King Sejong of the Joseon Dynasty, enduring the test of time for 600 years.

Myeoncheon Fortress was built in the early Joseon period (21st year of Sejong, 1439) to prevent invasions by Japanese pirates along the coast.

Through restoration projects, the fortress walls, Yeongrangyo Park, and government office sites have regained their original forms, but many visitors only spend 1-2 hours here, leaving with a sense of loss as it feels like a mere "passing tourist spot."

To address this, the city of Dangjin has created the Myeoncheon Fortress Hanok Stay as a "stay-type historical and cultural tourism base" where travelers can fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the 600-year-old fortress.

Officially opened in May 2026, it is a cozy, emotional healing accommodation.

The rooms are named after historical figures closely connected to Myeoncheon.

With four themed rooms featuring historical figures, it is a great place for family or couple trips with a capacity of four.

Reservations can be made through the official website of Myeoncheon Fortress Hanok Stay. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but operates normally on public holidays.

While pets are not allowed, Dangjin residents, honorary citizens, national merit holders, registered disabled individuals, and residents of sister cities of Dangjin can enjoy a 20% discount. Identification and proof of discount must be presented upon check-in.

The highlight of Myeoncheon Fortress Hanok Stay is its breathtaking views, almost touching the fortress walls.

Sitting by the window or on the porch, you can enjoy the sight of the stone walls and lush greenery, pleasing your eyes.

The exterior features a traditional hanok with a neat tiled roof, eaves, and wooden pillars, while the interior is equipped with modern bathrooms, comfortable heating and cooling, and clean bedding, ensuring a hassle-free rural experience.

During the day, you can walk along the stone wall paths under warm sunlight, and at night, enjoy strolling along the softly illuminated fortress walls.
