Discover Ilsadae: The Hidden Scenic Spot in Deogyusan Mountain, Muju

Nestled deep within the valleys of Deogyusan Mountain, Ilsadae (part of the 6th scenic view of the 33 Guchondong Views in Muju) awaits your discovery!
Hello!
I'm a member of the Muju-gun SNS Supporters. This time, I'm excited to introduce you to Ilsadae, the sixth scenic wonder among the 33 Guchondong Views.
Also known as Suseongdae, Ilsadae has long been celebrated for its breathtaking beauty.
Legend has it that Song Byeong-seon, a scholar during the late Joseon Dynasty, was so captivated by the scenery that he built a pavilion here. Ilsadae remains a significant natural heritage site of Muju to this day.
Here's some essential information for your visit:

The Origin and Meaning of Ilsadae:
Ilsadae is located at the entrance of the Guchondong Valley within Deogyusan National Park.
Thanks to the unique terrain where the Wondangcheon Stream flows around a rocky peak, it's also called Suseongdae, meaning a fortress made of water.
Song Byeong-seon, who built the pavilion here, was a patriotic figure during the enlightenment period. Many called him 'Dongbang Ilsa,' meaning the only scholar in the East.
Thus, the most widely accepted theory is that the place was named Ilsadae after him.
In 2009, it was designated as a National Scenic Site, further recognizing its value.

Although access to some areas is difficult due to the dense foliage, the view from afar is still impressive.
I visited on a cloudy day, but the tranquil atmosphere before the rain created an even more charming scene.
In conclusion,
Ilsadae, one of the most representative natural sites in Muju, is a great place to take a walk and enjoy the peaceful scenery.
Currently, access to the valley and bridge section is restricted due to safety concerns, but you can still enjoy the scenery from nearby, and it's even better when combined with a visit to Seobyeokjeong Pavilion.
Why not take a leisurely stroll along the 33 Guchondong Views and experience the deep nature of Muju?
It was another great day in Muju!
