The most talked-about new travel destination in Chungnam

I visited the Chilgap Tower Observatory in Cheongyang, Chungnam, which has just been open for a little over ten days.

I heard the news that a new landmark was built in Cheongyang, so I went there myself. Perhaps because it had just opened, the facilities and layout felt neat and tidy.

From the entrance to the interior exhibitions, I could feel the freshness unique to new buildings.

I used to see construction around Cheongyang Lake often, but seeing the completed structure in person, I realized it was large in scale and the atmosphere was completely new.

Compared to my visit to Cheongyang last summer, it felt like I was in a different travel destination even though it was the same area.

It seems like a new landmark representing Cheongyang has emerged alongside Chilgapsan Mountain.

▲ Chilgap Tower Entrance

Parking was ample and convenient.

As soon as you get out of the car, you can see the Chilgap Tower and Skywalk buildings, making it easy for first-time visitors to understand the layout.

Chilgapsan Tower is a complex tourist facility consisting of a 6-story observatory, a skywalk, and a floating walkway bridge.

It is open from Tuesday to Sunday every week, and you can visit from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM without any break times.

It is closed every Monday, so please keep that in mind when planning your visit.

Admission closes at 4:00 PM, and the entire facility closes at 5:00 PM, so it's best to arrive a little early if you want to enjoy it at your leisure.

The admission fees are ₩7,000 for adults, ₩5,000 for teenagers, ₩3,000 for children, and ₩2,000 for toddlers. Uniquely, part of the admission fee is returned as Cheongyang Love Gift Certificates, which can be used in various places within Cheongyang-gun.

Also, residents of Cheongyang, Buyeo, and Gongju can receive discounts, making it feel like an even more welcoming place for locals.

▲ Chilgap Tower Kiosk

Inside the building, the first floor is decorated with a tourist information center and an exhibition space for Cheongyang specialty products.

Tickets can be purchased at both the kiosk and the information desk, so you can choose the method that is most convenient for you. The staff is also friendly and helpful, making it easy for first-time visitors to look around.

As soon as I entered, the subtle scent of chrysanthemums spread, which went well with the atmosphere of the newly opened space, and the scent made the first impression even better.

▲ Local Specialty Product Promotion Space

On one side of the first floor, there is a promotional space introducing Cheongyang-gun.

Various items are available, from tourist information brochures to specialty product displays, making it fun to look around, and you can purchase your favorite products right away.

You can get all the information you need before starting your Cheongyang trip, making Chilgap Tower a great starting point for your trip.

▲ Chilgap Tower Photo Zone

On the second floor, there is an unmanned cafe operated by robots, making it a great place to take a break. On the 3rd and 4th floors, there are immersive media exhibitions about Chilgapsan Mountain and Cheongyang, making it interesting for people of all ages.

Each floor has well-divided spaces with different characteristics, making it great for families to enjoy together. The barrier-free layout, which makes it easy to move around with strollers and wheelchairs, was also impressive.

▲ Chilgap Tower Observatory Promenade Deck

I'm easily scared, so I couldn't easily try the skywalk and decided to take a walk around and look at it.

Still, the most popular spaces were the rooftop observatory and the skywalk.

The skywalk is about 100m long, and part of the floor is transparent, allowing you to see the scenery of Chilgap Lake unfolding below.

People who have been there say that the thrill becomes familiar quickly, and the cool openness feels greater than the fear, making it a very satisfying photo spot.

When you come down from the observatory, you can naturally connect to the floating walkway bridge, allowing you to walk along the lakeside, making it possible to see, enjoy, and rest all at once.

Especially on days when the wind is calm, the surrounding scenery is reflected in the lake like a mirror, making the whole scene look more serene and radiant.

▲ Chilgap Tower Walking Path

After viewing the observatory, if you move to the left, you will find an observation deck path where you can see the scenery below.

The scenery of Chilgap Lake seen from above is different, so it was nice to stay for a while and appreciate it slowly.

The view of Chilgap Tower from below is also a different charm, so if you look around the observatory and the deck path together, you will have a richer viewing experience.

▲ Chilgap Tower Waterfront Promenade 1

▲ Chilgap Tower Waterfront Promenade 2

If you follow the waterfront deck, you will see a pair of mandarin duck sculptures, which are symbols of Chilgap Lake.

If you pass the waterfront deck and head to the opposite promenade, you can also find a deck promenade that leads to the Chilgapsan Natural Recreation Forest.

I thought it would be a good course for a light walk and would be suitable for families or the elderly.

After looking around, I naturally understood why it is getting so much attention these days.

If you are planning a trip to Cheongyang, I highly recommend adding Chilgap Tower to your itinerary.
