After parking at the Gumhoji waterfront theme park parking lot, I begin my stroll. As soon as I enter Gumhoji, I am greeted by the deep, clear water and the gracefully drooping branches of weeping cherry blossoms. The elegant curves of the weeping cherry trees add a unique and graceful atmosphere to Gumhoji.
The Gumhoji walking trail is approximately 3 kilometers long and is a flat course. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to complete a lap at a normal walking pace, making it a perfect spring outing for people of all ages, from children to the elderly. Walking slowly under the cherry blossom tunnel feels like the stresses of everyday life are being swept away by the spring breeze.
According to legend, Gumhoji is associated with the tales of the Yellow Dragon and the Blue Dragon. It is said that the pond was formed when the tail of the Blue Dragon struck the ground while fighting over the Yeouiju. Perhaps that’s why Gumhoji has a particularly clear and brilliant turquoise color.
As you walk along the path, you can also find a photo spot featuring Jinju's adorable mascot, 'Hamo.' Inspired by the otters of Jin Yang-ho, Hamo conveys a positive message: "Hamo (then), we can do it!" Be sure to take a beautiful photo with Hamo, who is adorned with a shell on its head and a pearl necklace around its neck.
Gumhoji is not just a place for walking. There are adventure and ecological playgrounds for children to enjoy, making it extremely popular among families.
