During a family trip to Asan, the Asan Ecological Insect Museum turned out to be an engaging and educational destination for children.
Combined with the nearby Jang Young-sil Science Museum, it offers hands-on experiences with insects, animals, and nature, making it a rewarding stop for both kids and adults.
Getting to the Asan Ecological Insect Museum
The museum is located on the first floor of the Green Tower within the Environmental Science Park, making it easy to navigate even with children.
All exhibition areas are conveniently arranged on one floor, and a map at the entrance helps visitors quickly identify where different insects and animals are located.
Parking is straightforward by setting your navigation to the Asan Ecological Insect Museum parking lot, with ample space available for visitors.
Admission and Operating Hours
Admission fees are affordable at 3,000 won for adults and 2,000 won for children and teenagers.
A combined ticket is also available, allowing access to the Green Tower and the Jang Young-sil Science Museum for 5,000 won for adults and 3,200 won for children and teenagers.
The museum is closed every Monday and on the day before and during holidays. Operating hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM from March to October, and from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM from November to February.
Exploring the Museum with Children
We spent about 40 minutes exploring the museum, which felt like the perfect amount of time for a child’s attention span.
The central pond features large koi and turtles swimming leisurely, drawing immediate interest and curiosity from young visitors.
Various sections dedicated to reptiles and insects encourage children to move around freely while observing animals up close.
Dr. Fish Experience Zone
One of the most memorable spots is the Dr. Fish experience zone, where visitors can briefly soak their hands.
The fish quickly gather around, creating a fun and slightly ticklish sensation that children find fascinating.
Hand-washing facilities are located nearby, making it easy to clean up before moving on to the next exhibit.
Terrestrial Animals and Relaxing Spaces
The terrestrial animal section showcases a variety of species including land turtles, prairie dogs, desert foxes, squirrel monkeys, rock hyraxes, and parrots.
The spacious layout allows children to walk around comfortably while watching the animals’ natural movements.
Squirrel monkeys are a particular favorite, often approaching visitors and showing playful interest, which makes the experience even more engaging.
Air Purification Room and Insect Ecology Zone
After the animal exhibits, the air purification room filled with greenery offers a calm space to slow down and relax.
The insect ecology room features a popular photo zone with a giant spider model and an oversized web, making it a fun spot for memorable pictures.
Green Tower Observation Deck Experience
After finishing the insect museum, we headed up to the Green Tower observation deck.
Large panoramic windows provide a clear view over Asan, making it worth the short trip upstairs.
A glass floor section adds a thrill for adventurous children. While it may feel intimidating for adults, kids often enjoy walking across it with excitement.
A Family-Friendly Destination in Asan
Visiting the Asan Ecological Insect Museum together with the Jang Young-sil Science Museum creates a balanced experience of learning and play.
With reasonable prices, thoughtful facilities, and engaging exhibits, it is a destination that both children and adults can genuinely enjoy as a family outing.
