A Trip to Dangjin for the Sapgyo Lake Drone Light Show (and a Bittersweet Ending)

In celebration of the Year of Visit to Dangjin, I took a trip to Dangjin to see the Sapgyo Lake Drone Light Show, which runs from September. I had the chance to explore some of Dangjin's beautiful attractions and enjoy a delicious meal at Sapgyo Lake. Here's my slightly cynical take on the trip.
Dangjin Sapgyo Lake Drone Light Show
Address: 57, Sapgyocheon 3-gil, Sinpyeong-myeon, Dangjin-si, Chungcheongnam-do
Operating Hours: Saturdays at 7 PM
Operating Period: 2025.09.06 ~ 2025.11.01
The drone light show, starting on September 6th and running until November 1st, is a weekly festival held every Saturday at Sapgyo Lake Sea Park. I rushed over on the first day to catch the spectacle.
Parking Information
There were parking lots near the event venue. This one was the least crowded, although it was a bit of a walk to the festival grounds. The parking lot near the entrance was already full. Staff were managing parking in various locations, so just follow their directions. Parking a little further away and walking isn't a bad option if you want a more relaxed parking experience.
Banners announcing the festival were visible throughout the area. I walked along, guided by a staff member. But the sky looked ominous. I started to worry that it might rain at any moment.
Even as I walked, cars kept arriving. It seemed like a lot of people came for the first day.
Police officers were also present to ensure smooth traffic flow. Seeing the bustling scene in Dangjin, my anticipation grew. I was especially excited about the drone show unfolding in the night sky above the sea.
Signboards were visible along the way, and staff were out controlling traffic. It was clear that a lot of preparation had gone into the event.
The line of cars was getting longer. I had to cross the street, but thankfully, a staff member was stationed at the crosswalk to assist pedestrians, ensuring a safe crossing.
If you follow this road further, you'll reach the Sea Park where the festival is held. Before the drone show, my companions and I decided to find a restaurant for an early dinner.
Upon entering, I saw restaurants and shops. It was a street full of eateries offering everything from snacks to fresh shellfish and seafood caught directly from the West Sea.
There were various fried foods, ice cream that kids love, and even silkworm pupae and sea snails. It brought back memories of begging my dad to buy them for me when I was a child, which brought a smile to my face.
I spotted the Battleship Park Marine Theme Park. I'll have to visit sometime. It was a little disappointing that it closed at 5 PM. Since it's free, I'll have to come earlier next time to check it out.
Dinner - A Seafood Feast
I visited a restaurant at Sapgyo Lake with friends and enjoyed a delicious seafood set meal. Because it was a set menu, there were many side dishes. I was already happy just looking at all the cheese, which I love.
The crispy texture of the freshly fried shrimp was simply fantastic! My sister is allergic to shrimp, so I happily ate one more, including hers. It was delicious on its own and even better dipped in sauce.
The seafood set also included sashimi. I felt like I'd hit the jackpot since it was included in the set menu. The chewy and firm texture was superb.
A platter of grilled shellfish, the main course, was served. At first, I was a little disappointed by the seemingly small portion, but then I found out that the shellfish could be refilled. I almost felt bad! I ate every last bit, including the refills.
As we were eating, suddenly there was thunder and lightning, and it started pouring rain.
The sky had looked ominous since I got out of the car, and now it was finally raining. And it was pouring! I was worried about whether the show would even happen. Then, I received news from the tour company representative that the show had been canceled.
Oh no!!!! No way!!!!
I came all the way from Seoul to see the drone show, this can't be happening!!!!
Unfortunately, the drone show was canceled due to the heavy rain. In the end, my siblings and I decided to soothe our disappointment with a spicy soup. Ramen with plenty of mussels and crab legs was available for free at the self-service bar. Knife-cut noodles were also included in the set menu.
I was disappointed, but I imagined how much more disappointed the Dangjin city officials who had worked so hard to prepare the event must have felt. My disappointment was nothing compared to theirs.
If the weather had been good and the show had gone on as planned!!!!
I could have seen such a beautiful drone show!!!
The spectacle of drones beautifully adorning the dark night sky stirred my heart just thinking about it. It was heartbreaking that I couldn't see it today!
But I can't just be disappointed, right???
The good news is that the drone show will be held every Saturday until November, so I'll have to come back on a nice day.
Next time, I'll come earlier to explore every corner of Dangjin, take a walk in Sapgyo Lake Sea Park, and finally, watch the drone show.
I'm very sorry that there are no videos.
I'll be sure to include videos in my next post~
I'll be back soon on a nice day to take lots of great pictures.
If you happen to see me at the drone show, please say hello~~
