MunGwang Reservoir in Goesan
The moment a gentle breeze sweeps across the water's surface, rippling the landscape, you'll naturally feel MunGwang Reservoir's power to slowly calm the traveler's soul. Thanks to the scenery that transforms with each season, it welcomes you with a fresh face no matter when you visit.
Located in Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, MunGwang Reservoir, also known as GamMul Reservoir, is a beloved spot for photographers and locals alike, with its gently rolling hills and long, connecting forest paths. Ample parking is available at the entrance, making it easily accessible, and the absence of parking fees lightens the start of your journey.
In autumn, the gingko trees that line the reservoir turn golden, creating a spectacular sight. Falling leaves dance on the water's surface, creating shimmering ripples. Photographers flock here from all over the country every year to capture this scene. When I visited, most of the leaves had already fallen, but walking on the yellow carpet covering the ground was romantic enough.
MunGwang Reservoir is also famous as a fishing spot. Various freshwater fish, such as crucian carp, carp, and catfish, inhabit the easily accessible points, making it a popular destination for anglers.
While strolling, you'll come across a beautifully decorated jar garden next to the reservoir. The various sizes of jars are naturally arranged, creating the feeling of a small outdoor gallery that blends well with the surrounding scenery.
Behind it is the 'Korean Peninsula Aquatic Habitat,' an ecological wetland modeled after the shape of the Korean Peninsula, making it a great educational space for children to learn about nature.
The area around MunGwang Reservoir has been developed into a nature-friendly waterfront park called 'Salt Land,' a unique space with inland salt pan experience facilities. The unique experience linked to the Salt Culture Center makes it popular with families.
Walking along the reservoir path again, the tranquility of the water's edge calms the mind. The well-maintained trail makes it easy to take a light stroll, and the unique atmosphere of late autumn continues throughout the walk.
Although I missed the peak of the golden gingko trees, it was enough to enjoy a leisurely walk in the lingering atmosphere of the season. If you are looking for a place with a quiet and deep relaxation rather than a crowded tourist destination, MunGwang Reservoir will definitely be a good choice.
