I recently enjoyed a peaceful and heartwarming autumn trip to Asan's Oeam Folk Village, a place that perfectly embodies the essence of the season.
After a long absence, returning to Oeam Folk Village felt like stepping into a serene landscape, making it an ideal destination for an autumn escape.
On a particularly beautiful autumn day with clear skies, my train journey to Asan led me to this village, which impressed me with its cozy and neat atmosphere. The small gardens, uniquely decorated at each entrance, and the warmth of the village paths were especially delightful.

Guided Tour
Guided tours start in front of the tourist information center. By booking in advance, you can explore the village with a knowledgeable guide. While it's enjoyable to wander on your own, the guide's explanations offer a more detailed understanding of the village.
Passing through the village entrance, the sound of the stream creates a refreshing ambiance.
If I had arrived earlier in the season, I would have been able to see the lotus flowers in full bloom. Now, only the leaves remain.
Gyeongjaegotaek is only open for viewing at designated times. Fortunately, it was open during my visit, so I entered with the guide. It was one of the places I was most curious about, as I hadn't seen it on my previous visit.
I was immediately captivated by the garden upon entering. The uniquely shaped trees and the courtyard filled with greenery were impressive, creating a refined and dignified atmosphere.
It's amazing how the trees have grown. It's something you have to see to believe.
Now I understand why viewing times are limited. Access is restricted to designated paths. We must protect our beautiful cultural heritage.
I was mesmerized by the picturesque scenery and lingered there for quite some time. If you visit, I highly recommend checking the opening hours and stopping by.
Free Exploration
After the guided tour, I had time for free exploration. I spent time wandering as I pleased. I also explored houses with well-kept yards visible over the low walls.
As a folk village, it features a variety of traditional houses. Examining the unique characteristics of each house was interesting. The stacked stone walls of one house particularly caught my eye.
This area was reportedly where the servants resided. It was unique in that the entrance was separate from the main house.
Although there is a slight slope, most areas are accessible without stairs. I saw many families with parents visiting.
There is also a cafe with a pavilion next to the stream. There were plenty of places to rest while walking around. With pavilions, benches, and cafes, it was perfect for leisurely exploring the village.
The vines climbing the walls blended perfectly with the houses. Walking around the back of the village, I was able to see the natural landscape.
The large tree in the courtyard was a testament to the age of the house. As it is currently inhabited, I quietly observed. I greeted the villagers as I passed by, exploring every corner of the village.
This is a protected tree in the center of the village. It is like a guardian spirit that has watched over this place for a long time. It seemed to have been here for an incredibly long time. I thought it would be nice to sit for a while and take a picture with the tree.
The sight of the platform for jars of sauces and condiments was also heartwarming. It's a sight that is rarely seen these days, but I vaguely remembered a time when every house had one, and mothers cherished them. I was so captivated by the coziness of the traditional houses that I wanted to become a part of the painting myself.
Wandering around the village, I found beautiful flowers blooming everywhere. I also took pictures with the flowers. They say that when flower photos start to outnumber your own photos in your album, it's a sign that you're getting older... but I still have far more pictures of myself than flowers. Haha.
I went to have a cup of tea at the cafe I visited last time, but a group of young children were there doing a drawing activity. I didn't want to disturb them, so I reluctantly turned away. But I still took a commemorative photo at the entrance.
Review
It was a great place to visit in the beautiful autumn season. It takes about 2 hours to explore at a leisurely pace. Booking a guided tour in advance will make the trip even more enjoyable. And exploring every corner of the village during free time and enjoying a cup of tea at a pretty teahouse makes it a perfect half-day trip. Asan Oeam Folk Village is a wonderful place to recommend as an autumn destination.
