Hello, I'm Kachilgangyi, a travel influencer known for my unique and sometimes critical perspective.
Today, I'm excited to share my experience at the recent spicy food festival. The 2025 Sunchang Tteokbokki Festa was as fiery as its main dish, tteokbokki!
If you're a tteokbokki lover, this November festival is a must-visit! It takes place in Sunchang, North Jeolla Province, and the atmosphere was incredibly lively thanks to the huge crowds.
Sunchang is famous for its gochujang (Korean chili paste), so it's the perfect place to host a tteokbokki festival. I enjoyed various tteokbokki flavors and had a blast. It was a fun and delicious trip.
2025 Sunchang Tteokbokki Festa
Festival Dates: November 15, 2025 ~ November 16, 2025 (2 days)
Location: Sunchang Fermentation Theme Park, Traditional Gochujang Folk Village
The parking lot was already full when I arrived. Fortunately, I came by bus this time, so I could park in a large parking area. The parking attendants at the entrance helped manage the traffic efficiently.
I received Sunchang Love Gift Certificates, which could be used like cash at the festival, as a gift for coming with a domestic bus tour company. I thought it would be great to come back next year with my mom and kids.
There was also a Digital Tourism Resident ID event at the booths. You could get a gift by signing up for a resident ID. I was already a member, so I couldn't receive a gift, unfortunately.
At the entrance, there were hands-on experience zones. You could participate in making gochujang, crafting meju (fermented soybean blocks), and other app-based programs.
Drawn in by the spicy aroma, I arrived at the vendor booths. There were over 30 booths, all preparing to serve customers. Some already had long lines forming before the festival even officially started. I decided to take a look around the festival grounds before eating.
The official name of the festival was Sunchang Korea Tteokbokki Festa. After passing the photo zone at the entrance, I entered the festival area. On the main stage, an event was in full swing. It was a dance competition, and many people were participating and having a great time.
In the grass plaza, there was a traditional games experience zone. Families were enjoying games like jegi kicking, yutnori, and sangmo spinning.
The timed event booth was also very popular. I was curious about the long line, and it turned out to be an event where you had to guess a specific time. If you got it right, you could win a prize, so I'll definitely try it next time.
A must-see: the photo zone! It was decorated with chrysanthemums for the fall season. The Sunchang gochujang mascot was adorable, and I saw children taking pictures in front of it.
After looking around, I headed back to the vendor booths. I wasn't really hungry, but I had to eat! Actually, I had to eat even if I was full! There were so many different types of tteokbokki that caught my eye.
I started with three servings: the original flavor, jajang (black bean sauce) flavor, and snow cheese. The great thing was that each plate was only 2,000 won. I also liked that they used recyclable plates to reduce waste. Plus, it was convenient to pay with cash, gift certificates, or QR codes.
I was able to try everything from the spicy and sweet original flavor to tteokbokki with various toppings and different base sauces. Anyone could easily eat at least five plates!
Even after eating three plates, I wanted more, so I ordered another one. I tried a variety of flavors and then ordered more of my favorites. There was also a stand selling bottled water for 1,000 won.
Besides the outdoor festival area, there were also indoor attractions. Inside the Fermentation Theme Park, there was a recreation of a school from the past, where you could wear old school uniforms and have fun.
I was so focused on eating tteokbokki that I missed the class! That's right, it was me! But I did take a picture with Director Baek Seok-hyun. It was impressive to see everyone enjoying themselves as if they had returned to their childhood.
I also put on a school uniform and took some pictures. My sisters teased me, saying I looked like a delinquent student. Thanks to them, I was able to make fun memories.
The souvenir shop was on the first floor of the same building. It was also very crowded. The character-related merchandise was especially popular.
The cute character dolls were a hit with the kids. I was more drawn to the stationery. The pink ballpoint pen was exactly my style!
The character tumbler was also my style. Pink tumblers are rare, so it was perfect for me, a pink lover. But since I already have over 30 tumblers at home, I hesitated for a long time and eventually put it down. I regretted it when I got home...
The mugs were so pretty that I stood in front of them for a long time. I thought it would be nice to buy one for each of my daughters, so I ended up buying two. Which mugs did I buy?
It was an impressive day in Sunchang, where I was able to promote K-food and enjoy our traditions at a fun festival. I had a wonderful time experiencing the unique atmosphere of the food festa.
Next year, I'll sign up for notifications and plan a 2-day, 1-night trip to fully enjoy the festival.
