A Special 2-Night, 3-Day Experience in Democracy
A special 2-night, 3-day experience learning the values of democracy.
Youth from Sinan County had a unique opportunity to visit historical sites and learn about the meaning of democracy and peace.
From August 3rd to 5th, Sinan County held the 'Youth Democratic Citizen Academy Camp' for 2 nights and 3 days.
This camp was part of a project to support youth growth in areas facing population decline by 2026.
The program aimed to instill the spirit of peace and democracy exemplified by former President Kim Dae-jung, who hailed from Sinan, and help youth grow into democratic citizens who will lead the future.
Beyond Books: Experiencing History Firsthand
During the camp, participants visited the National Assembly to learn about the legislative process and parliamentary democracy.
They also explored the DMZ, the National Cemetery in Seoul, and the Kim Dae-jung Peace Center, experiencing history in person.
Walking through spaces they had only seen in textbooks, they had the chance to see, hear, and feel the importance of democracy and peace.
Embracing the Values of Peace and Democracy
Confronting the reality of division and following in the footsteps of those who dedicated their lives for the nation, the youth reflected on the precious value of peace and the significance of democracy in their daily lives.
They also learned about the leadership and spirit of the times represented by former President Kim Dae-jung, broadening their perspectives on the world.
Today's Experiences Will Foster Tomorrow's Growth
Though the 2-night, 3-day camp was brief, it provided youth with valuable lessons that will remain with them for a long time.
Sinan County will continue to support youth in cultivating their dreams through diverse experiences, helping them grow into future talents with sound values and broad perspectives.
History is not just about learning from the past; it is the power to create a better future.
