A Scenic Stroll at Susungdae

As spring approaches and the sky is a clear blue, I felt the need to awaken my restless body after work and decided to head out to Susungdae.
It’s a place close by that can be enjoyed anytime, and I was eager to experience it again.
Although I regretted not being able to capture the stunning scenery that could have been seen the day before when heavy snow fell, I found solace in walking on this beautiful day.
Upon passing through the entrance of Susungdae and parking my car, I found a sign that guided me on how to enjoy the area.
There’s a comprehensive map of Susungdae and trekking paths, and I recommend checking the routes before setting off. Since it was around sunset, I opted for a shorter course.
After parking in the lot near the management office, I noticed a grassy area to my left and restaurants on the right. I chose to walk towards the suspension bridge, which is also accessible for families with strollers.
As dusk fell, the streetlights began to turn on, though some were out and I thought to request maintenance. To the left, there’s a public restroom, so it’s good to check beforehand to avoid any inconvenience during your walk.
Susungdae is also the venue for the Geochang Theater Festival, and during summer, the cultural foundation operates the office here. While it felt a bit desolate in winter, I reminisced about the hot summer days.
Daouri Bapsang is one of the famous eateries in Geochang, offering healthy meals that showcase the local flavors, making it a must-visit for travelers.
Although I wanted to visit Yosu-jeong and the Turtle Rock Woodcraft Experience Center, the sun was setting, so I decided to turn back towards the riverside.
This winter, the snow was scarce, and although some snow had fallen the day before, it was not enough to fill the river, leaving the streams quite dry.
I walked across the bridge leading to the camping area, where the river below flowed gently but was shallow. Nonetheless, the view at sunset was still breathtaking.
The Susungdae camping area is popular among campers due to its deck setup. I sometimes come here to enjoy a season, but winter camping can feel lonely.
With the fresh snow from yesterday, the scenery was enhanced. The sledding area, which was bustling during the vacation, has now closed early, leaving a tranquil atmosphere.
There’s also a sign indicating that this was the filming location for the hit drama “That Winter, the Wind Blows” in 2013, featuring actors Song Hye-kyo and Jo In-sung.
While the water in Susungdae was plentiful back then, it seems to have diminished lately, which is quite disappointing.
I discovered a lovely photo spot near the parking lot, which I hadn’t noticed before. The walking path leads to the sledding area, and the lights behind will surely add charm at night.
The spacious parking lot allows visitors to park comfortably, but during the summer and festival periods, it fills up quickly.
This summer, I had the chance to enjoy this beautiful place, and I highly recommend exploring Susungdae when looking for a nice walking spot in Geochang. Each season offers a different view, making it a delightful experience.
This concludes my reflections on the Susungdae walking path after work.
