A New Year's Sunrise at Chungju Tankumdae

Hello! It's already 2026!
Have you all made your New Year's resolutions?
Today, I would like to introduce Tankumdae in Chungju, a perfect spot for a fresh start with the New Year!
Tankumdae is a historical site along the Namhan River, well-known among Chungju residents for its pleasant walking paths and beautiful scenery.
The sunrise in Chungju is at 7:40 AM, so I arrived a bit early!
It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the Tankumdae parking lot to the Twelve Peaks, where you can view the sunrise.
There was a lot of snow in Chungju, so the paths were still covered, creating a lovely winter atmosphere for a light stroll!
There are signs along the way to the Twelve Peaks, making it easy to find.
The pavilion you see in the photos is called Tankumjeong.
It seems like a great place to enjoy the view when the weather is nice.
Right below Tankumjeong, you can see the stairs leading to the Twelve Peaks, a popular spot for sunrise.
Going down the stairs, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery reflected in the Namhan River and the stunning sunrise, making it a top sunrise spot in Chungju.
On the day I visited, the sky was cloudy, so I couldn't see the beautiful sunrise, but I made a wish as the sun rose!
On my way down, I spotted a lovely crescent moon hanging near the Chungchong Tower.
The Chungchong Tower, located at Tankumdae, was erected to honor the noble sacrifices and patriotic spirit of the fallen heroes who gave their lives to defend democracy.
Tankumdae in Chungju offers not only stunning sunrises but also beautiful views reflected in the Namhan River, tranquil walking paths, and Tankum Park, where children can play.
It's a perfect place to stop by during your travels.
I highly recommend Tankumdae as a sunrise spot for those looking to welcome the New Year!
