The Chuseok holiday was long and luxurious, but it felt like such a waste to spend it all at home. I figured anywhere over 100km away would have terrible traffic, so I decided to look for somewhere close by where I could enjoy a different landscape from my neighborhood. I just needed to get some fresh air before the holiday ended.

That's how I found Nuieseom Island via the Tando Badaetgil (Tando Sea Road) in Ansan. If you want to experience the beautiful tidal flats of the West Sea and a refreshing sea breeze, I highly recommend it.

Fortunately, the sea road was open when I arrived, so I was able to walk along the Tando Badaetgil to Nuieseom Island.

It's a place where you can check the tide times before visiting and enjoy the wonders of nature as you walk along the mystical sea road that opens according to the tide.

Let me introduce you to the basic information and features of Tando Badaetgil, as well as the charm of Nuieseom Island.

Tando Badaetgil Basic Information

Tando Badaetgil is a maritime trekking course located in Daebudo, Ansan City. When the tide goes out, the road connecting Tando and Nuieseom Island appears, allowing you to experience the 'Miracle of Moses'.

Addresses:

Tando Badaetgil: Jeon Gok-ri, Seo Sin-myeon, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do

Nuieseom Lighthouse Observatory: San 170, Seon Gam-dong, Dan Won-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do

After parking, follow the signs to Tando Badaetgil.

Tando Badaetgil Features

A road that opens according to the tide: The road only opens twice a day during low tide, so it's a good idea to check the tide times before visiting.

Vast tidal flats: When the road opens, you can see the vast tidal flats spreading out on both sides. The tidal flats are home to various creatures such as small crabs and shellfish, making it a great place for nature learning.

Tidal flat experiences were most active during low tide. Even though it was a drizzly day, I was amazed to see people wearing raincoats and riding trucks closer to the tidal flats to enjoy the experience.

Nuieseom Island

Nuieseom Island is visible in the distance.

I later learned that it was designed to resemble a silkworm.

Beautiful scenery: The refreshing sea view that unfolds while walking along the sea road and the windmills in the distance create an exotic atmosphere. Next to the windmills, there was a building covered with white steel bars.

Amazing Sight

There is a unique sculpture on Nuieseom Island.

It's the 'Antenna Bird'.

As you walk along Tando Badaetgil, you'll come across several forks in the road. If you go straight, you'll pass a few windmills and see an island on your left.

That's Nuieseom Island.

Happy Time

While walking, I came across two paths and chose the one on the right.

This path allowed me to walk with the sea on my right, naturally leading me on a loop around Nuieseom Island.

Things to See on Tando Badaetgil

Tando Port: The starting point of the sea road trekking. You can feel the unique atmosphere of a fishing village and enjoy fresh seafood at the nearby restaurants.

Happy Time

Tando Badaetgil (Moses' Miracle Road): A 1.2km trekking course that connects Tando Port to Nuieseom Island. You can move comfortably because you're walking on a paved road over the tidal flats. The scenery of the tidal flats spreading out on both sides of the road is impressive.

Precious Memory

Wind Turbines: The three wind turbines towering between Tando Port and Nuieseom Island are a symbol of the area and a beautiful photo spot.

Spectacular Scene

Fishing Village Folk Museum: Located at the entrance of Tando Port. You can view various exhibits that offer a glimpse into the fishing village culture and lifestyle of Daebudo.

The Origin and Meaning of Nuieseom Island

I was curious about the name 'Nuieseom Island' throughout the walk, and my curiosity was resolved after circling the island.

Attractive Photo

At the starting point of Tando Badaetgil, a group of about 10 tourists were taking group photos. I overheard a gray-haired man, who appeared to be their leader, explaining that Nuieseom Island was named so because it looks like a silkworm.

About Nuieseom Island

According to my research, Nuieseom Island was originally called 'Nulseom'. There are two theories about the origin of the name: one is that the scattered rocks on the tidal flats looked like a 'lying island', and the other is that it originated from 'Nul', which refers to building dikes on the tidal flats for fishing.

Wonderful Photo

Origin of the name: Nuieseom Island is called 'Nuieseom Island' because the shape of the island resembles a silkworm cocoon. When you reach the top of the island, you can see the mountain ridges that look like a silkworm wriggling.

Spectacular Scene

Meaning: Nuieseom Island symbolizes the 'mystery of nature'. The sea road that only appears at low tide and disappears again at high tide shows the rhythm of life that moves according to the laws of nature. In addition, the lighthouse installed on the top of the island serves as a guide to illuminate the sea route, carrying the meaning of 'hope and guidance'.

Mysterious Look

Things to Enjoy on Nuieseom Island

Nuieseom Lighthouse Observatory: A lighthouse located on the top of Nuieseom Island. When you reach this point, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the sea.

Valuable Experience

Sunset Viewing: The sunset over the West Sea as seen from the Nuieseom Lighthouse Observatory is particularly famous for its beauty. The red glow falling over the tidal flats will provide an unforgettable memory.

Visit Tips

Checking the tide table is essential! It is recommended to check the tide times in advance and arrive 1-2 hours before low tide.

Dreamlike Moment

Comfortable shoes: Since you will be walking on the tidal flats, it is best to wear shoes that are okay to get wet, such as sandals or aqua shoes.

Dreamlike Moment

Tidal flat experience: It is also possible to experience catching shellfish or crabs on the tidal flats. You can prepare your own experience tools in advance or rent them on-site.

Attractive Photo

Tando Badaetgil Nuieseom Island is a special place where you can experience the sea, tidal flats, and the mystery of nature all at the same time. Take some time to escape from your daily life and connect with nature as you walk along the mysterious road that opens according to the tide.

Beautiful Scenery

I also looked around the sedimentary rock layers.

Precious Memory

The Tando sedimentary rock layers are distributed in Daebudo and Tando, Danwon-gu, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do, and are sedimentary rock layers formed during the Late Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic Era (approximately 70 million years ago).

Happy Time

It is a geologically important area where numerous dinosaur footprint fossils and plant fossils have been discovered.
