A Magical Winter Night at Hongseong Sky Tower

The winter nights in Hongseong have become dazzling. The western coast from Gungri Port to Namdang Port, stretching 6.7 km, has been illuminated with lights as the night scenery project was completed at the end of November. Among the highlights, we enjoyed the beautiful night view from Hongseong Sky Tower.
Hongseong Sky Tower is located in Sokdong Coastal Park, situated between Gungri Port and Namdang Port. Officially opening in May 2024, it has become a major tourist attraction in Hongseong. From its 65-meter-high observation deck, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the expansive mudflats of the Yellow Sea and the coast of Cheonsuman. The entrance fee is affordable, making it a habit for locals to visit whenever they pass by. Depending on the tides and the time of day, the scenery changes beautifully. Starting in December, a 360-degree night media show will be held against the backdrop of the 65-meter-high Sky Tower.
The night scenery of Hongseong's western coast consists of four points: Gungri Maritime Park, Hongseong Sky Tower, the coastal walking path connecting Sokdong to Namdang Port, and Namdang Marine Fountain Park. If you want to enjoy all of these in one night, it's recommended to start at Gungri Maritime Park around sunset and continue towards Namdang Marine Fountain Park. The lights at Gungri Maritime Park turn on with the sunset. However, if you prefer to take your time and enjoy leisurely, one night may not feel sufficient.
Hongseong Sky Tower has introduced a new 3D night media show along with the existing landscape lighting of Sokdong Coastal Park. To fully enjoy the night scenery, it is recommended to park at Sokdong Coastal Park and walk along the beach path towards Sky Tower. The dark sea, illuminated by the vibrant night scenery, complemented by the sound of crashing waves, creates a romantic winter night atmosphere.
As you walk along the beach and ascend the hill towards the deck path, the initially small Sky Tower gradually comes closer. Suddenly, the towering Sky Tower appears before you, requiring you to look up to take it all in. The lights from the Sky Tower illuminate the surroundings, making the Cheonsuman sea vibrant as well.
The once-clear sea, reflecting the bright winter sky, transforms into a spectrum of colors at night. The wide mudflats exposed by the low tide at late night are stunning. Even with the waves receding far into the sea, the sound of the waves is lively, and the changing lights brighten the Sokdong Coastal area. Only about a week after its official opening, it seems that not many people are aware of the night scenery yet, as during my one-hour visit, only one group left as another arrived.
The night walk at Hongseong Sky Tower begins at the entrance of Sokdong Coastal Park and extends to the pine forest connecting to Moseom. A small full moon illuminates the pine forest, adding to the enchanting atmosphere. Beyond the deck path, it gets darker as you approach Moseom.
Hongseong Sky Tower features a 3D night media show every night from 7 PM to 9 PM, adding to the already splendid night scenery. The cultural heritage symbol of Hongseong, Choyangmun, and beautiful flowers light up the night, while shrimp and fish swim in the deep sea. A media show wishing for a prosperous 2026 unfolds amid the night scenery, seemingly occurring every 30 minutes.
After enjoying the Hongseong Sky Tower, I had a brief taste of the Namdang Marine Fountain Park, which is also illuminated with night scenery lighting and features media projection laser lights. The winter night was incredibly beautiful. In December, sunset occurs around 5:20 PM, leading to long winter nights. The nights come quickly, and with shorter outdoor activity time, winter is the best season to enjoy the night scenery. The 6.7 km western coastal road, now adorned with lights, extends the winter nights in Hongseong. Enjoy the romantic winter in Hongseong!
