A Delightful Family Outing: Coffee and Fun at Haneul Coffee Farm in Gapyeong

Looking for a fun and engaging place to visit with your family during vacation? A place where you can have interesting experiences is a must-visit, right?
Gapyeong is a great option for an easy day trip near Seoul! Among the many attractions, Haneul Coffee Farm stands out, offering a variety of coffee-themed activities. Three generations of mothers and daughters recently visited this farm, and it was a truly special day. Here’s an honest review with a touch of critical sentiment.
The grandmother was deeply touched when her granddaughter bought her a potted plant, and she responded with a beaming smile. Seeing my mother holding the coffee beans and drip bags from the coffee experience, I could feel how much she enjoyed our time together. This one photo seems to capture the essence of our visit.
In the greenhouse where the coffee trees grow, you can also purchase potted plants. I asked the granddaughter, who effortlessly lifted a rather large pot, to take a photo with her grandmother.

Haneul Coffee Farm, which I recommend as part of your Gapyeong itinerary, cultivates its own trees and offers a complete experience from roasting and grinding to brewing your own coffee. I had a wonderful time here with friends last year, so this time I brought my mother.
The farm consists of a coffee tree greenhouse, a vineyard, paddy fields with snails, and an activity area. The surroundings were lush with plants. My mother immediately recognized each plant, which amazed me and my daughter, as we couldn't tell them apart.
This is the coffee house where the 체험 activities take place. I was surprised by the variety of 체험 activities available. There were so many options that it was hard to choose!
Small cars can park in the parking lot in front of the farm, which is conveniently located right in front of the 체험 area.
Larger buses need to use a separate parking area further inside. Since it's a 체험 farm, many school groups visit. Fortunately, it was more relaxed during the vacation period.
This is the coffee tree greenhouse where you can see coffee cherries and coffee trees. You can observe everything from newly sprouting seedlings to trees in bloom.
The coffee flowers have such a unique shape. Upon entering, there's a slightly tangy scent, likely from the flowers.
These are the plump, ripe coffee tree fruits. They look quite different from the coffee beans we're familiar with. It was interesting to observe the fruit in its natural form.
Even the entrance to the vineyard was planted with peppers and eggplants. Inside, the grapevines were laden with grapes. Grape picking 체험s are available from the end of August, so I feel like I'll have to come back!
The bunches of grapes looked so delicious that I wanted to eat them right away, but they weren't quite ripe yet. I love grapes so much that I always have them in my fridge, but these days they're so expensive that I can't buy fruit as freely as I used to.
We entered the 체험 area to begin our program. The tables were already set up, and we could choose our seats. Originally, three teams were scheduled for the 3 PM session, but after the news reported heavy rain damage in Gapyeong a few days prior, two teams canceled.
In the end, only our family participated today. When we drove here, we passed the convenience store building that was featured in the news, which made us feel uneasy. Many people have canceled their pension and travel plans, making things even more difficult for the locals, they lamented.
The table setting alone showed how sincere they are. The interior showed its age, but it was clear that it had been carefully maintained.
My daughter tried her hand at roasting green beans. After listening attentively to the instructor's explanation, she started roasting the beans. She was fascinated by the changing color of the beans.
My mother tried making drip bags. She thoroughly enjoyed putting the ground coffee into the drip bags and sealing them with a sealing machine.
We took the roasted beans outside to check them. It was a pretty good first attempt. The nutty aroma was better than expected.
My mother diligently made drip bags, and we each took one.
The granddaughter grinds the beans that she roasted. The aroma was so wonderful that we were captivated even before tasting the coffee. My mother loved the aroma.
The moment we brewed the coffee we roasted and ground ourselves, we all exclaimed 'Wow!' in unison.
We also brewed coffee using the drip bags my mother made. We held a coffee tasting session to compare the flavors. We all agreed that the freshly roasted beans were the best, with a noticeable difference in taste and aroma.
I also enjoyed a cup of coffee brewed by my daughter. It was on another level compared to the instant coffee I usually drink. I could drink this every day.
For my mother, who is very interested in herbs, this place was as good as a department store. She meticulously examined all the plants. The kind owner even gave her a few herb cuttings as a gift.
Behind the 장독대 (Korean crock pots), there were hydrangeas. There were also pumpkins growing on vines and 봉숭아 (balsam) trees, which are rare these days...
In addition to the drip bag making, green bean roasting, and hand-drip 체험s that our family participated in, there are also 향주머니 (scented pouch) making, coffee flower pot making, tropical plant pot making, and grape picking 체험s. It's a great place to visit with your family during vacation.
