The hot summer has passed, and autumn, the perfect season for travel, is finally here!
Today, I want to share my story about a day trip to Dangjin by train. Dangjin by train? I was a bit surprised at first too, but after visiting at the invitation of a travel agency, it was better than I expected.
It was my first time visiting Dangjin's Myeoncheon Eupseong Fortress, which blends in with the village, and it was much better than I thought. I think I liked it because it was a good time to visit a nice place on a good day for traveling.
The journey to Dangjin started at Yongsan Station. I took the ITX Saemaul train from Yongsan Station to Pyeongtaek Station. It's a short trip, less than an hour, but it was enough to feel the romance of a train journey.
The interior was clean and well-equipped, making it comfortable. The power outlets were conveniently located behind the armrests of the seats, making it easy to charge devices. It's only an hour away, so I shared a coffee with my friend on the train, watched the scenery outside the window, and before I knew it, we arrived at Pyeongtaek Station.
Flowers welcomed us as we transitioned from summer to autumn. And the sky was so beautiful... a typical autumn sky.
When we arrived at Pyeongtaek Station, a bus was waiting to take us. From here, we traveled by bus.
Our destination for this day trip to Dangjin by train was Myeoncheon Eupseong Fortress. It's located within the village, offering a view where the past and present coexist.
I also saw the Kkongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup) Street. I learned that Dangjin is famous for Kkongguksu. It was my first time knowing this. The fact that there's even a street dedicated to it says it all, right?
The size of Myeoncheon Eupseong Fortress was larger than I expected. It takes at least an hour to walk around the entire fortress. There are parking lots in various places, many shops in the alleys, and the tranquil scenery was especially beautiful.
Down the village road below the fortress, there was a pond with a 멋진 (meotjin - wonderful, great) pavilion. I fell in love with the beautiful sight. You can actually go to the pavilion, making it a great place to rest for a while.
There were benches in front of the pavilion, making it a good place to sit and relax. Of course, you can also cross over to the pavilion. I sat and rested for a while, enjoying the coolness provided by the shade.
Myeoncheon Eupseong Fortress was well-preserved, making it great to visit. I also liked that admission was free. There were photo zones, and many people were taking pictures.
Walking down in the opposite direction, there's a village road with a fortress wall. There's also parking available at the entrance. And I was able to hear about the history of Myeoncheon Eupseong Fortress with a guide among the traditional Korean houses.
The neat traditional Korean houses caught my eye. It seems like this place is operated as a Hanok (traditional Korean house) village, and I thought it would be nice to stay overnight next time.
As I walked along the fortress wall, I saw the wall. Elderly villagers were resting in the pavilion on the wall. They saw us and asked where we were from. I was able to enjoy the scenery a little more as I looked around the fortress wall and pavilion.
You could go to the fortress wall by going up the grass. I liked the sight of the colorful flags fluttering in the autumn breeze.
I went outside through the fortress gate. What was unique was that after passing through the gate, there was another huge fortress wall in front of me. The double walls built to defend against external attacks were impressive.
The sight of being surrounded by layers of large retaining walls felt majestic. The fact that the fortress wall was made of stones of different sizes was simply amazing.
The small shops around the area were unique and fun to look around. Each shop was decorated so beautifully that it would be nice to visit them one by one.
The murals drawn on the white walls also caught my eye. The cute and charming appearance seemed to reflect the emotions of this place.
Myeoncheon Eupseong Fortress, which I visited for the first time on this trip to Dangjin!!!
I didn't know there was such a beautiful place in Dangjin......
I realized once again that there are so many places I haven't been to yet, and I moved on to the next course in search of another beautiful place in Dangjin. Dangjin Myeoncheon Eupseong Fortress is a great place to go with parents or children. First of all, there are many parking lots in various places, which was convenient. And except for a small hill, most of it is located on a flat area that is easy to walk around. In addition, it was nice to be able to use the restaurants, cafes, and shops in the surrounding area.
