A Cultural Day in Yesan: Movies and Markets

A day spent watching movies, strolling through the market, and soaking in the local atmosphere.
Living in Dangjin, the options for watching movies naturally narrow down to two places: CGV and Lotte Cinema.
Recently, many people buy discount tickets in advance to watch movies for about 7,000 won, and I am one of them.
However, one day, when I planned to watch a movie as usual, I found that all the 7,000 won discount tickets were sold out.
Just as I hesitated to book at full price, I heard an enticing suggestion.
"Yesan Cinema charges 7,000 won for adults and 6,000 won for kids. Popcorn and soda are really cheap, and after the movie, you can explore the market and enjoy a bowl of soup. Perfect!"
That suggestion moved my heart.
'Alright, let's go to Yesan today.'
Thus, I embarked on a half-day cultural trip to Yesan with my children.
Upon entering, I was delighted by the charming names of the theaters: Apple Hall and Stork Hall, reflecting the local culture.
We watched "Zootopia," a great choice for kids.
While it lacked the glamour of a large multiplex, the seating was comfortable, and the sound and visuals were satisfying.
Above all, the atmosphere inside the theater was wonderful.
It was quiet yet warm, orderly but not stiff.
Yesan Cinema is simple but genuine.
There are no large multiplex cinemas in Yesan.
Instead, there is Yesan Cinema, a modest and warm space, just as its name suggests.
We made a reservation online beforehand and headed to the cinema.
Upon arrival, the kids refunded their previously purchased 7,000 won tickets and re-purchased them with a local resident discount.
Ticket Prices:
✔️ Adults: 7,000 won
✔️ Kids: 6,000 won
3D tickets are 9,000 won, and for seniors, disabled, and veterans, it's only 5,000 won, making it a truly affordable day.
Considering today's prices, this feels unbelievable.
'With prices like this, I could come here every day without a burden,' I thought.
After leaving the cinema, the real charm of Yesan began.
Just a few steps from the theater, the lively market scene unfolded.
It wasn't a touristy area but a genuine neighborhood where people live.
At the market, we enjoyed browsing and laughing together, and for lunch, we had a warm bowl of soup.
It wasn't extravagant, but it was comforting food.
Such meals create lasting memories of travel.
Yesan may not be large, nor does it have many landmarks.
But it has the warmth of people: friendly cinema staff, small greetings in the market, and local elders smiling at the kids.
All of these elements made for a fulfilling half-day trip.
Yesan offers a perfect half-day course for residents of Chungcheongnam-do: watching a movie at Yesan Cinema, strolling through the market, and enjoying a meal.
You don't have to go far or spend a lot to enjoy culture and leisure in Yesan.
This trip to Yesan left me with a lasting feeling of warmth rather than just the memory of watching a cheap movie.
The distance from Dangjin is manageable, the route is family-friendly, and most importantly, the prices are honest, filled with the warmth of people.
