A Beautiful Hike on Oseo Mountain in May
Today, I would like to share my hiking experience on Oseo Mountain, where the lush greenery is beautiful even in May.
There are about five different courses to climb Oseo Mountain, but today I will introduce the route that passes through the Oseo Mountain Nature Recreation Forest and leads to the summit via Woljeongsa Temple.
The entrance fee is 1,000 KRW for adults, 600 KRW for teenagers, and 300 KRW for children. Groups of 20 or more can receive a discount.
Additionally, entrance fees are waived for national veterans, people with disabilities, families with multiple children, children under six, and local residents.
Parking fees are separate: 1,500 KRW for compact cars, 3,000 KRW for medium-sized cars, and 5,000 KRW for large vehicles.
For two adults, the total cost for entrance and parking was 5,000 KRW.
Inside the nature recreation forest, there are camping decks, cooking areas, and accommodations like lodges and recreational facilities. If you make a reservation in advance, you can spend a peaceful day in the forest.
You can find many rustic wooden buildings throughout the area, perfect for relaxing with family under the shade of trees.
After passing the ticket office, you will walk about 300 meters to reach the parking lot where you can park and then head to the hiking trail.
Next to the parking lot is the Forest Culture Center, where you can take the left path to access Course 4. If you wish to visit Woljeongsa Temple, you must use Course 4.
You can also access Course 5 behind the Forest Culture Center, so it’s a good idea to check which course to take in advance.
Climbing the wooden stairs marks the beginning of the mountain trail. The initial section of the trail is very gentle, resembling a light stroll up a hill, taking about 13 minutes to reach Woljeongsa Temple.
Upon arriving at the beautiful Woljeongsa Temple, you will find a resting area called Ojak Bridge, where food and coffee that complement the mountain scenery are sold. Since this is a short distance from the start of the hike, it’s a great spot to take a break and enjoy some acorn jelly or pancakes on your way down.
The path to the logging road leading to the summit is also gentle, taking about 10 minutes, but be careful as there are many stones along the way.
Once you reach the logging road, you will have covered just under half the distance to the summit, taking about 25 minutes. Although the course map suggests you’ve reached halfway, the slope becomes steeper from this point, requiring nearly double the time to reach the top.
As you pass the logging road, the path to the summit becomes significantly steeper.
Approaching the summit, the difficulty increases, and you will encounter very steep stairs. When the trees become shorter, you know you are close to the summit.
Oseo Mountain is famous for its silver grass fields, one of the top five in the country. In May, you can enjoy the lush scenery, while in autumn, the fields are filled with silver grass, offering a different atmosphere.
After walking about 200 meters through the silver grass, you will reach the summit.
The view from the top is absolutely stunning. From the summit of Oseo Mountain, you can see the Boryeong Dam, Seongjusansan, Boryeong City, Muchangpo Beach, and Daecheon Beach. On clear days with low fine dust, the scenery is even more beautiful.
At the summit, a deck is installed, making it a famous spot for sunrises and capable of accommodating many people even during peak times.
Today, I introduced the hiking experience on Oseo Mountain, which is famous for its silver grass, but is also beautiful in May with its lush greenery. The nature recreation forest course takes about three hours round trip, including breaks, and is not a very difficult route, making it a great place to visit and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
