The 36th Geochang International Theater Festival has kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony in the city of Geochang, known for its theatrical charm.

The vibrant arts festival has begun at the Geobuk Pavilion in Susungdae, as hot as the midsummer sun.
The festival has taken its first steps with a grand opening ceremony.
Audiences who love theater, local residents, and tourists gathered in excitement to celebrate the start of the festival.
Tickets for the opening ceremony were distributed at the Geobuk Pavilion ticket office starting at 5 PM.
I arrived about 30 minutes after ticket distribution began and was fortunate enough to receive a ticket.
Seeing so many people waiting in line at the ticket office made it clear that there is high interest and anticipation for the Geochang International Theater Festival.
Before the opening ceremony, the area around the Geobuk Pavilion transformed into a giant dinosaur made entirely of newspaper, showcasing the birth of the Velociraptor.
This vivid recreation using newspaper amazed both children and adults alike.
Thanks to the actors' delicate expressions and dynamic movements, it felt as if a living dinosaur was moving right in front of us.
The opening ceremony began under the guidance of announcer Park Se-jeong.
The pre-show featured performances by Baek Hyung-min with Korean dance and the Blue Note Tap Dance group, delivering lively rhythms and energetic movements.
The official opening ceremony commenced with the introduction of guests, followed by a speech from Lee Hong-ki, the mayor of Geochang County, announcing the start of the festival.
Actors Kang Bu-ja and Kim Sung-kyun took the stage to share warm congratulatory messages.
The opening celebration featured the play 'The Dream of the Elderly', which could not be photographed due to copyright issues, so we have a curtain call video instead.
This production is based on the original work that scored a 9.9 rating on Naver Webtoon and is recognized as a national brand representative at the 2026 New York Festival.
Starring renowned veteran actors such as Son Sook, Lee Il-hwa, Park Ji-il, and Lee Pil-mo, the play blends the brilliant performances shaped by time with the energy of a new generation, delivering laughter, tears, and warmth.

The 36th Geochang International Theater Festival will run from July 31 to August 9 under the slogan of 'Free Immersion, Sweet Imagination'.
A total of 50 groups, including 7 international teams, will perform in 78 shows over 10 days.
