Traveling from Jeonju to Incheon Airport During Chuseok: A Guide

Traveling during Korea’s golden holidays is never easy, and this Chuseok was no exception. With limited ticket availability and concerns about traffic and airport congestion, choosing the right transportation method became more important than ever.
This post shares a real experience traveling from Jeonju to Incheon Airport during Chuseok, comparing bus, KTX, and the Airport Railroad Express. It focuses on practical tips, time-saving strategies, and what actually helped reduce stress on a busy holiday.
If you are debating between buses and trains for Incheon Airport, especially during peak seasons, this breakdown will help you decide what works best depending on timing and circumstances.
Traveling During Korea’s Golden Holidays
For some reason, this year all my overseas trips seem to line up perfectly with Korea’s golden holidays. Normally, I prefer weekday travel and off-season schedules since my time is flexible.
Chuseok, however, left no room for choice. With everyone traveling at the same time, worries about traffic jams and airport crowds started early.
How to Get from Jeonju to Incheon Airport
From Jeonju, the most common option is the airport limousine bus. However, this bus usually takes about 30 minutes longer than the intercity bus.
In my experience, taking the intercity bus to Incheon Airport is both faster and cheaper. The seats are similar, and if you know the trick, the second-to-last row near the emergency exit offers noticeably more legroom.
Why I Changed My Plan This Time
This time, I booked late and couldn’t get my preferred bus schedule. On top of that, the thought of Chuseok traffic and chaos at Incheon Airport made me reconsider everything.
After some 고민, I managed to secure a KORAIL ticket and decided to try the Airport Railroad Express and City Airport Terminal for the first time.
Using AREX and the City Airport Terminal

Booking through Klook helped save a little money. After purchasing, I simply opened the voucher, selected my date and time, and activated it within minutes.
Normally, even abroad, I prefer buses because delays are predictable. But since this was Korea, the option to check in luggage early through the Airport Railroad made a big difference.
Being able to send off my luggage and travel light felt especially valuable during a packed holiday season.
Skipping Lines at Incheon Airport
I fully expect Incheon Airport to be crowded during Chuseok. Still, using SmartPass and bypassing standard check-in lines should save a significant amount of time.
When everything is busy, even small shortcuts can reduce stress and make the journey smoother.
Is AREX Always the Best Option?

One important thing to remember is to always check the Airport Railroad Express schedule. Trains are not as frequent as buses.
Outside of major holidays, taking a direct bus from Jeonju to Incheon Airport can actually be more efficient and flexible.
