The Han River Bus: A New Way to Experience Seoul

Many have been curious about the Han River Bus, a new mode of transportation that crosses Seoul's Han River.
Is it convenient? What is the price of the Han River Bus? What are the routes?
I, too, had these questions, so I gathered information and experienced it firsthand. Based on my real review, I'm going to tell you everything about the Han River Bus.
Let's take a closer look at how the Han River Bus offers a new experience beyond just a means of transportation.
What Exactly is the Han River Bus?
The Han River Bus is a new concept of public water transportation that began its first run on September 18, 2025.
It's an eco-friendly water bus that operates along the Han River for both Seoul citizens and tourists.
You can board with a transportation card like you would on a subway or bus, and even transfer! Isn't that amazing?
It was initially introduced for commuting convenience, but I personally think it would be great for sightseeing as well.

Han River Bus Routes, Schedule, and Fares?
The Han River Bus operates between a total of seven docks: Magok, Mangwon, Yeouido, Apgujeong, Oksu, Ttukseom, and Jamsil.
The total operating distance is 28.9km.
The operating time is largely divided into local and express routes. The local route stops at all docks and takes about 127 minutes, while the express route stops at only three major docks and takes about 82 minutes.
Initially, only local routes were operated, but express routes were newly established and are in operation from October 10th.
The Han River Bus fare that you're most curious about is 3,000 won per ride.
In particular, if you use the Climate Companion Card, you can ride unlimited times for an additional 5,000 won, and you can also receive transfer discounts like on buses and subways, so it's really economical.

Han River Bus Reservations: From On-site Purchase to App Usage
You can board the Han River Bus by purchasing a ticket on-site at the dock without a reservation.
However, if you don't want to experience long ticket lines and not being able to ride at your desired time, like I did on the first day of opening, it's much better to make a Han River Bus reservation in advance.
You can check the real-time seat availability and make a reservation through the Han River Bus official website or the 'Seoul My Soul' app, so it will be convenient to refer to it.
It is said that checking the seats through the app is much more efficient.
Some docks operate free shuttle buses in connection with subway stations, and they are working to improve accessibility by expanding the installation of Ttareungi bike rental stations.

What was it like to ride? Unexpected Scenery and Tips
When I rode the Han River Bus, I was surprised at how fast it was.
It felt like a bus running on the river.
The interior was really pleasant and spacious. Each seat had a small table and a power outlet, so it was great for doing simple work or relaxing with a laptop or tablet.
Free Wi-Fi is also provided, and the fact that there are even 20 bicycle racks installed so you can board with your bicycle is a really big advantage.
In particular, the Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain seen while going from Apgujeong to Yeouido at night, the Namsan Tower visible in the distance, and the night view of the 63 Building seen right in front of you were truly breathtaking.
To be able to see such wonderful scenery for the Han River Bus price of 3,000 won, it can really be said to be the best value for money!

Han River Bus, Commuting vs. Tourism, What's Your Choice?
Initially, the Han River Bus was heavily promoted for commuting, but according to actual user reviews, many people seem to be more satisfied with it for tourism or leisure purposes.
After all, it takes longer than general public transportation and the headway is still long, so it may be a little disappointing for commuting.
But getting out of the complex city center and enjoying the leisurely flowing scenery on the river is really a special time.
In particular, for those looking for weekend outings or special date courses, it will provide a unique Seoul trip that cannot be experienced with existing means of transportation.

New Charm of the Han River, Experience the Han River Bus
The Han River Bus has experienced several trials and errors since its first operation, but the fact that you can enjoy the beautiful night view of Seoul on the Han River for the Han River Bus price of 3,000 won is definitely a big attraction.
In particular, the experience of seeing famous landmarks such as the Banpo Bridge Rainbow Fountain or the 63 Building from the boat is really special.
It will be more satisfying to create memories if you use it for weekend outings or date courses rather than for commuting.
I hope that the Han River Bus will become a more convenient and enjoyable public transportation and tourist destination for citizens in the future.
