Shinan County Launches Eco-Friendly 1004 Bus Initiative

Shinan County has officially started fundraising for the 'Eco-Friendly 1004 Bus Purchase' project, aimed at resolving transportation blind spots in remote islands and reducing carbon emissions.
Due to the unique characteristics of Shinan, which has many islands, operating regular public buses is challenging in many areas.
Since 2019, Shinan County has been operating the '1004 Bus' using vans to support the movement of residents in areas with inconvenient transportation.
While the 1004 Bus has been a valuable means of transport for residents, prolonged operation has led to vehicle aging, raising concerns about safety and increased exhaust emissions.
For this reason, Shinan County has decided to convert existing vehicles into eco-friendly electric (van) buses as a way to ensure both resident safety and environmental protection.
This initiative will be promoted under the hometown love donation program, with fundraising taking place from January 19, 2026, to December 31, 2027.
The target fundraising amount for this designated donation project is 1.5 billion KRW, and all donations will be used for:
- ✔️ Purchase of 25 electric buses
- ✔️ Installation of 25 charging stations
With the introduction of the eco-friendly 1004 Bus, the convenience of transportation for residents in underserved areas will significantly improve, and it is expected to continuously contribute to climate change response through carbon emission reduction.
Shinan County will continue to take steady steps towards ensuring transportation welfare for residents and a sustainable island environment.
