It's been a really long time since I traveled to Japan!

In fact, it's been a whopping five years since my last trip there.

After my solo trip to Tokyo five years ago, with the pandemic and various other circumstances, I couldn't make it back.

I used to visit Japan so often, but time really flew by.

I had been planning this trip in my head for months.

Finally, I went on a solo trip to Fukuoka, Japan!

This time, I flew from Daegu International Airport to Fukuoka Airport via T'way Air.

I decided to go and started looking for flights months in advance, but I missed the special deals and booked my ticket through Agoda.

I booked my hotels through both Agoda and Yeogi Eottae (a Korean hotel booking app).

The reason I booked separately was because my flight from Daegu Airport was late in the afternoon on the first day, so I knew I would arrive in Fukuoka in the evening. I wanted to save on the first night's accommodation, so I booked a capsule hotel on Agoda. From the next day, I moved to a different hotel that I had booked on Yeogi Eottae.

It was a Saturday, and I was heading to Daegu Airport to catch the T'way Air flight departing for Fukuoka Airport around 5 PM.

I worked a Saturday morning shift, so after work, I packed my suitcase at home and took a taxi to the airport.

Since it was Saturday, there wasn't much traffic, and I arrived at Daegu Airport quickly by taxi.

I had so much time to spare that I stopped by Gongcha, located in the Daegu Airport food court, for a refreshing drink.

Knowing I might be hungry when I arrived in Fukuoka in the evening, I bought some snacks at a convenience store on the first floor.

I bought quite a lot of snacks! Haha.

To top it off, I saw a Krispy Kreme Doughnut shop on the first floor and indulged in one after a long time.

I wasn't planning on going straight to bed after arriving in Fukuoka, so I filled my stomach beforehand. Haha.

I knew I'd be eating a lot of delicious food there, but I was already indulging from the start!

I expected to gain at least 2 kilograms (about 4.4 pounds) after the trip, and I left prepared for it! Haha.

Daegu International Airport was surprisingly quiet and empty, even on a weekend.

I think I was able to relax comfortably because there weren't many people.

I had a lot of concerns about whether to depart from Busan Gimhae Airport or Daegu Airport, and I also worried about the length of the trip and the dates.

But somehow, I managed to have a fulfilling 3-night, 4-day trip.

I'm definitely good at planning trips! Haha.

My passport expired during the five years I hadn't been to Japan.

This is my newly issued blue passport.

Let's get it stamped a lot over the next 10 years! ^^

I checked in my luggage and waited for boarding.

T'way allows check-in and free seat selection from 24 hours before departure.

I immediately accessed the app exactly 24 hours before departure and completed online check-in and free seat selection in advance.

I was worried about competition for seat selection, but it was really easy when I did it.

There were plenty of unassigned seats available.

I was able to select a window seat in the front row among the remaining seats.

And when returning, online check-in and free seat selection were also available from 24 hours in advance.

I checked in and selected my seat for the return flight 24 hours before departure from Fukuoka.

I went through the departure procedures and entered the gate area.

As expected, it was quiet and peaceful compared to other airports.

But there were quite a few people on the same flight.

I can see the T'way Air plane through the window.

I was so excited to see this scenery after such a long time.

Boarding was completed quickly, and I waited for takeoff.

I was nervous and a little scared since it was my first time flying in a while.

I didn't feel this way when I used to go to Japan all the time, but now that I'm older, I'm just grateful to be able to travel safely.

Clouds seen from the window after takeoff.

The weather was great.

As time passed, I started to see the land of Japan.

It had really been too long.

I arrived safely at Fukuoka Airport after a short flight.

Welcome to Fukuoka!

I was so grateful just to have arrived safely. ^^

Now, it's time to go through customs and pick up my luggage.

A lot of things had changed to self-service in the years since I last visited.

But I didn't panic and managed to handle everything calmly.

I'm a pretty impatient person, so I tend to walk fast.

But even if you're quick to get through customs, you still have to wait for your luggage, so it doesn't really matter how fast you are. Haha.

I always rush to get off the plane, go through customs, and head to baggage claim, even though I don't know when my luggage will arrive. Haha.

While waiting for my luggage, I turned on the Usim (eSIM) that I had purchased in Korea to see if it was working, and thankfully, it was.

I had been debating whether to rent a pocket WiFi or buy an eSIM before going to Fukuoka, and I'm so glad I chose the eSIM.

But if you're traveling with a group, a pocket WiFi might be better.

I used to use pocket WiFi when I went to Japan with friends, but you have to carry it around and charge it.

Since I was alone, it was incredibly convenient to use an eSIM.

I'll definitely use an eSIM if I travel solo again! ^^

WassupKorea is a next-generation platform designed for foreigners who want to truly experience Korea — not just as tourists, but as locals. While countless Koreans have shared their daily lives, food experiences, and cultural tips through blogs, videos, and social media, much of this valuable content remains locked behind language barriers. WassupKorea solves this by collecting and curating high-quality local content and making it accessible to global audiences through real-time AI-powered translation. Instead of superficial recommendations, users gain access to authentic, first-hand stories — from hidden street food spots to weekend mountain hikes — written by Koreans for Koreans, now reinterpreted for the world.

AI-Powered Personalization, Translation, and Voice Interaction

What sets WassupKorea apart is its deep integration of artificial intelligence at the core of the platform. AI matches users with personalized content based on their language, nationality, and travel interests. Whether you're looking for vegan Korean food in Jeonju or part-time job tips in Seoul, the platform's smart engine brings the most relevant, timely posts to the forefront. Every piece of content — blog summaries, local guides, user comments — is instantly translated using advanced AI translators. Users can also listen to posts via natural-sounding voice AI in their own language. Real-time voice translation in community chats allows for live conversations between users from different countries. With voice synthesis, AI can even "learn" your voice preferences to create a more natural and immersive experience.

A Living Community Driven by Local Content and Global Connection

WassupKorea is more than just an information portal — it’s an AI-driven community hub that grows smarter as users interact. Travelers and residents alike can share their own content via links from TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube, or directly post on the platform. AI categorizes the content, suggests similar posts, and connects users with shared interests. Foreigners living in Korea can also access essential resources like visa tips, rental guides, job listings, and lifestyle hacks. As more content is generated and more interactions occur, the AI refines its recommendations — creating a dynamic feedback loop that benefits every user. WassupKorea bridges the gap between Korea’s deep local knowledge and the global audience eager to explore it, forming a smart, multilingual, and inclusive platform for everyone curious about life in Korea.
