Honeymoon Flight Tickets with Korean Air Mileage: A Review

Planning honeymoon flights to Europe can be one of the most stressful parts of wedding preparation, especially with rising airfare. This post shares a real review of planning a Europe honeymoon using Korean Air mileage, including a Dubai stopover and a direct return from Rome.
It covers mileage requirements, additional cash costs, and practical tips like open-jaw itineraries and stopovers, offering a realistic look at whether mileage tickets actually work for long-haul honeymoon travel.
Can You Really Go to Europe with Korean Air Mileage?
One of the most common questions we received while preparing our honeymoon was whether it is actually possible to fly to Europe using mileage.
The short answer is yes. With enough Korean Air mileage saved in advance, even long-distance honeymoon flights to Europe can be covered almost entirely.
For our itinerary, the estimated mileage requirement was between 120,000 and 140,000 miles for a round trip, depending on whether the travel dates fell in off-peak or peak season.
In addition to mileage, fuel surcharges and taxes of roughly 200,000 to 300,000 won still applied and were paid separately by credit card.
Our Honeymoon Flight Route at a Glance
The departure route was set as Incheon to Dubai with a layover, followed by a connecting flight to Rome.
The return route was much simpler, using a direct Korean Air flight from Rome back to Incheon.
This type of itinerary, where the departure and return cities differ, is known as an open-jaw ticket and is fully possible when booking mileage flights.
Why We Chose a Dubai Stopover Before Rome
We wanted the beginning of our honeymoon to feel extra special, so we added a two-night, three-day stopover in Dubai.
When using mileage, setting up a stopover was not difficult, and by combining Korean Air with code-share flights, a Middle East layover fit naturally into the route.
During our short stay in Dubai, we visited major highlights like Atlantis The Palm, the Burj Khalifa observatory, Dubai Mall, and even experienced a desert safari before continuing on to Rome.
Returning Home on a Direct Flight from Rome
The return journey was straightforward and comfortable, with a direct Korean Air flight from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Incheon.
The flight time was approximately eleven and a half hours, and as a honeymoon couple, we were pleasantly surprised by thoughtful seating arrangements.
Considering how expensive Europe-to-Korea airfare can be, using mileage for this leg alone felt like a major win.
Why We Eventually Paid Cash for This Trip
Although mileage tickets were originally part of the plan, we ultimately chose to pay cash for this particular booking.
With the departure date approaching and a strong preference for adjacent seats, paying outright offered more flexibility at the time.
Still, the planning process confirmed that mileage tickets remain an excellent option when booked early and strategically.
