A Day of Otaku Shopping in Hongdae: Gacha Disappointments and Summer Wars Obsessions
It had been a while since I last visited Hongdae, so I decided to go.
But after so long, Hongdae was plastered with anime everywhere...
It didn't used to be this much, I think.
Since I was in Hongdae, I decided to start by heading up AK Plaza, now known as the 'Otaku Tower.'
But on the way to AK, a huge new gacha shop had opened, so I stopped by.
Seriously, ₩7,000 or ₩8,000 for a single gacha pull?
Seriously...
Aren't domestic gacha shop prices getting too high? ㅠㅠ
In the meantime, I found this sunfish mejirushi with a decent price.
I really wanted it, so I tried my luck.
I wanted everything except the jellyfish and Nemo...
Of course, I got Nemo twice and the jellyfish, which I wanted the least, and the sunfish..
In the end, ₩12,000 vanished.
I swore I wouldn't do gacha unless I was in Japan, but because of that sunfish...
I thought it would be dazzling, but the real thing was a bit underwhelming...
Climbing the Otaku Tower, it felt like there was a lot going on.
Exhibitions, and so many more gacha machines.
But then I found it.
Summer Wars mejirushi...?!
I've watched Summer Wars at least five times since I was a kid.
It's one of my favorite movies.
How could this be coming out as mejirushi now?
Why didn't anyone tell me?
I have to collect the whole set.
I made up my mind and searched online, but since it was released a while ago, online gacha shops were already sold out or had almost no stock...
Buying them here would be too expensive....
Something like ₩6,000 each.
I gritted my teeth and bought two...
My wish is King Kazma and that rat.
Looks like I'll have to go to Hongdae again on October 31st...

Okay, I admit I went near the end of the pop-up.
But this is just not good.
I was so angry that I browsed Animate, and it felt like Animate itself had gotten bigger.
Did they expand without me knowing??
The old manga section and the goods section had switched places.
I didn't realize there was so much to see.
I didn't know it, but the day I went was the day after the Korean release of Manamichi Volume 2, so I immediately bought it.
The price was the same as online, ₩6,300, and there weren't any special perks I wanted, so I just bought it right away.
I'm reading it whenever I have a chance, but I still don't have a favorite character...

I just briefly stopped by Ichiban Kuji.
Naruto's smiling face was so cute that I took a picture.
And the Chainsaw Man Reze arc Kuji that came out this time.
I believe it's the Last One Prize.
It's the first time I've seen it in person.
But it was the biggest and most elaborate Kuji figure I've ever seen...
I wanted the Last One Prize more than the Reze figure, so I looked up the resale price, and it was selling for over ₩300,000.
But I understand the price.
I was really surprised when I saw it.
The quality was so good and the size was really big...
Shark Beam is so cool..
After leaving AK Plaza, I followed the otaku map on Twitter and went around the goods shops.
Demon Slayer goods were almost completely sold out.
The only ones left were unpopular characters.
There wasn't anything I really wanted to buy, so I was just looking around to see what's popular these days.
There were so many places to stop by that I walked around for about 3 hours.
I was originally going to go to the Inuyasha pop-up.
I just ended up walking around Hongdae all day...
I felt like I couldn't go to work the next day if I went to Inuyasha too.
Besides,
There are so many learned people.
It was so much fun looking at the owners' collections.
There were some hard-to-find items too.
I stared at that Iguro for a long time because he was so handsome...
While walking around, the Keroro coaster was reasonably priced and the lineup was all good, so I bought one.

They had so many good products that I only looked around at other goods shops, but I ended up spending a lot of money here.
The owner had been to the My Hero Academia Original Art Exhibition.
They had a lot of Original Art Exhibition goods too.
Two cards for ₩2,500.
They were also selling postcards cheaply, so I bought them while I was there.
Of course, I'm going to the Original Art Exhibition in November too, haha.
The Bakugo bomb plushie also seemed popular, and they were selling it here.

Apparently, it had just been stocked the day before, but it was already sold out.
I was planning to buy them all up when I go to Japan next week.
Everyone is so fast....
Thanks to that, I got to see the real thing.
Isn't it too cute and well-made?
It's a little disappointing that it doesn't have a beam.
I'll have to find the beam myself.
I hope it's not sold out even when I fly to Japan?

Anyway, I walked around Hongdae all day and walked over 10,000 steps.
It was tiring and I spent a lot of money.
But I felt a sense of accomplishment and my bag was full.
And the things I bought.
If I opened them right away, I felt like I would keep pulling until I got what I wanted, so I held back and opened them when I got home.
And Tamama came out...
I hoped that Tamama wouldn't come out.
But looking at it again, the material is good and the colors are vibrant.
Tamama looks cute, so I like it.
If I really didn't like it, I would have put it on Bunzang right away, but I decided to just use this one.
And the Original Art Exhibition cards.
Of course, I was hoping for the main character or my favorite Kirishima or others, but... both of them were female characters...
I don't dislike them, but I don't really like them either.
But I like Eri saying 'Wow!' because it's from the culture festival scene in My Hero Academia ㅠㅠ
It would have been nice if Mirio's face had been in it too, but it's a shame...

As expected, My Hero Academia's art style is the best.
And the Mejirushi that failed miserably.....
Only the ones I didn't want came out.

This is just not good.
I can accept the main character.
