"Shut Your Mouth"… 19 Malicious Posts
A 30-year-old woman, Ms. A, has been indicted for posting threatening messages targeting actress Han Ji-min.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, Criminal Division 5 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Ji-young), announced on the 29th that Ms. A was indicted without detention on charges of intimidation and insult on the 20th.
Between September and October of last year, Ms. A allegedly posted 19 threatening messages on her social media account, including:
"I will sabotage the movie Han Ji-min is in."
"Shut your mouth."
The problem was that it wasn't just simple malicious comments; she tagged not only Han Ji-min but also her acquaintances, which was deemed a clear act of personal intimidation leading to criminal charges.
BH Entertainment: "Legal Action Inevitable"
BH Entertainment, the actress's agency, filed a complaint with the police against Ms. A in November of last year, and Han Ji-min herself reportedly underwent investigation as the plaintiff.
The agency stated at the time:
"We will maintain a firm stance against the spread of false information and posts that defame character and will take legal action without leniency."
Anger-Fueled Crime After Dating Rumors
The prosecution's investigation revealed that Ms. A's motive stemmed from the dating rumors between Han Ji-min and Jannabi vocalist Choi Jung-hoon that surfaced in August of last year.
Immediately after the dating reports, Ms. A reportedly became emotionally unstable, continuously monitored Han Ji-min's social media activity, and began writing posts filled with slander and threats.
Online Threats Are No Longer 'Freedom of Expression'
Experts emphasize the need to strengthen legal sanctions against online abuse and threats, stating, "The infringement of personal rights simply because someone is a celebrity can never be justified."
Cookie's Comments
Why did 'dating rumors' have to escalate into 'threats'?
When fandom turns toxic, it's no longer affection but violence.
Liking someone is a freedom, but expressing it comes with responsibility.
