Exploring Heidelberg: A Stay at Hotel Am Schloss

GERMANY
The Final City of My Trip to Germany: Heidelberg
I've arrived in Heidelberg, the last destination of my road trip in southern Germany. This charming university town is known for its romantic atmosphere. Here’s a review of my stay at Hotel Am Schloss, which is perfectly situated for touring Heidelberg Castle. I booked through MyRealTrip and was extremely satisfied with my experience at Hotel Am Schloss.
Hotel Am Schloss is highly recommended for its location. It is ideally placed for the essential Heidelberg Castle tour, as it shares a building with the funicular station that takes you up to the castle. The view from this hotel is equally impressive, offering stunning sights of Heidelberg's Old Town and the castle.
In the same building, you’ll find the hotel, the funicular station, shops, and a parking area.
Many reviews mention the struggle of parking and dragging suitcases to the hotel. Finding parking in Heidelberg's Old Town can be challenging, but if you stay at Hotel Am Schloss, parking is a breeze. The hotel has access to parking from the 2nd to the 6th floors of the building. As a traveler with a rental car, I found it very convenient, with a daily parking fee of 15 euros.
After parking, I checked in on the 7th floor of Hotel Am Schloss, which has a cozy, home-like atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly, adding to the warm environment. The hotel seems to offer luggage storage, which is a nice touch.
The rooms appear to have around 7 to 8 units per floor, though I’m not entirely sure. I booked my stay through MyRealTrip, which included a breakfast buffet. I paid 154 euros for a night with breakfast, while parking was an additional 15 euros. Make sure to register your vehicle at the hotel before leaving.
Hotel Am Schloss offers a lovely terrace view. The room I stayed in was quite spacious at around 20 square meters. The bathroom was standard, and the highlight of the room was definitely the terrace, which provided a great space to relax and enjoy the view.
The view of Old Town from the terrace is breathtaking. It reminded me of a popular Netflix show where the characters express their delight over delicious food, as I found myself repeatedly exclaiming how amazing the view was.
Breakfast at Hotel Am Schloss was delightful. While there are seats available on the main floor, you must go up a half flight of stairs to enjoy the best views while dining. From there, you can see Heidelberg Castle, which was an unexpected and stunning sight.
After breakfast, I headed down to the funicular station on the first floor. On weekends or holidays, there can be a crowd of tourists heading up to the castle, but staying at Hotel Am Schloss makes it all manageable.
If you're looking for a hotel in Heidelberg, I highly recommend Hotel Am Schloss, especially for those traveling with a rental car due to its convenient parking. I comfortably took the funicular to the castle, and there was plenty of time to check out before heading back.
