New Year's Sunrise Family Trip in Gangneung

Day 1 (12/30, Tuesday)

(Travel) Sangbong -> Gangneung (KTX)

1. Hegge: Lunch at a brunch cafe

- Located on the 3rd floor of a building without an elevator.

- The atmosphere was quiet, calm, and clean!

- We visited as a group of three and ordered two sandwich sets (14,900 KRW each) and one coffee.

- Sandwich set includes: Ciabatta sandwich + pumpkin soup + coffee (hot/iced).

- The soup changes daily; on the day we visited, it was pumpkin soup.

- We ordered a jambon fig sandwich and a chicken ranch sandwich.

- It seemed like they baked the bread themselves, which made it easy on the stomach.

- The overall taste was healthy and delicious.

- The jambon fig sandwich contained fig jam instead of actual figs, which was a bit disappointing.

- The chicken ranch had just the right flavor, slightly sweet, savory, and delicious.

- The coffee set was Americano, and we also ordered Hegge blended drip coffee (5,800 KRW).

- It was great to enjoy a healthy brunch with tasty coffee!

2. There was a street food place on the first floor of the building where Hegge is located, and we had fish cake.

- The fish cake was delicious as always, and the owner was very friendly.

3. Gangneung Central Market

- Bani Chicken Gangjeong

- Even on a weekday afternoon, there was a line, possibly due to the year-end.

- The process from waiting to ordering and packaging was efficient, taking about 10 minutes.

- The taste was above average, and while it wasn't a must-try, it was still enjoyable.

- Compared to Sokcho's Mansuk Chicken Gangjeong, it was a bit softer.

- Traditional liquor can be found at a store called Asak in the central market.

- The owner was very friendly and didn't try to sell the expensive options.

- The nearby Emart did not sell traditional liquor.

4. Go.re Bookstore

- We visited the famous Go.re Bookstore in Gangneung, which is about a 10-15 minute walk or a 5-minute drive from the central market.

- The bookstore has a parking lot, but spaces are limited, so it's good to know nearby parking options.

- I first visited after a temple stay at Bohyeonsa in early 2021, and I am still envious of having such a bookstore outside of Seoul.

- I purchased Kim Cho-yeop's "The Shell of Two Sides." I often end up buying her books when I visit bookstores in Sokcho or Gangneung.

- The book is intriguing and thought-provoking.

5. Accommodation: Confiness Ocean Suite Hotel

- This hotel was booked to see the New Year's sunrise in Gangneung.

- Although it had a mountain view instead of a sea view, it was not disappointing since the sea was just a short distance away.

- Thanks to my loving and diligent mother, we could enjoy our year-end and New Year's trip to Gangneung!

- The hotel felt more like a clean condo than a typical 4-star hotel.

- It is also suitable for workation stays.

- There is a convenience store on the first floor, making it convenient.

- It is slightly away from Gyeongpo but still close, which means fewer crowds.

- This is a great place for family stays!

+ Enjoying a happy dinner with my beloved family and Gweryongpo dried fish!
