Exploring Guinsa Temple in Danyang

While searching for places to visit in Danyang,
I decided to visit Guinsa Temple.
The route suggested by the navigation and the signposts were different,
so I followed the GPS and ended up taking the winding Arirang Road.
As it turned out,
it directed me to 'Guinsa' instead of 'to Guinsa'.
Anyway, after driving along the old road,
I finally arrived at Guinsa!
(When coming from Danyang Market, don't suddenly turn right when going straight to Guinsa,
as it added an extra 30 minutes to my trip.)
From the entrance, Guinsa Temple is majestic,
with towering trees that hint at its overwhelming scale.
There is also a large, high swing from the past.
If the weather is nice, I would love to ride it in a hanbok.
Children would surely enjoy the large old swing in front of Guinsa.
At the entrance, there is a huge building,
and at first, I thought it was Guinsa.
I was a bit anxious about the walking part,
but I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a museum.
It's a commemorative museum for the 100th anniversary of the birth of the 2nd patriarch of the Cheontae sect.
Since I'm not well-versed in Buddhism,
I didn't know much about it.
Guinsa Temple has a large parking lot, and there is no separate admission fee.
I paid 3,000 won for parking.
I asked how to get up from the entrance,
but the response was quite curt, which left me feeling a bit upset.
However, I quickly paid and hopped on the shuttle.
The shuttle is free, and it took about 3 minutes to reach the entrance of Guinsa.
The shuttle runs only uphill for the devotees,
and you have to walk down.
The shuttle starts operating every morning at 9 AM,
with a lunch break from 10:30 AM to 12 PM, and the last bus leaves at 5:15 PM.
After a 3-minute ride,
I arrived at the entrance of the Sobaeksan Guinsa.
When I got off the shuttle,
I realized this was not the actual entrance!
The entrance I reached was the 'Guinsa Station' bus terminal.
If you plan to visit Guinsa,
using the Guinsa bus terminal is a good option.
From there, I walked for about 5 minutes up a steep path.
Finally, I reached the entrance of Sobaeksan Guinsa!
As I continued up the steep path,
I could see large buildings to my right and in front of me.
The road was paved, but it felt like a hike!
There is also a library,
and a store selling Buddhist supplies.
The walls made of roof tiles were beautiful,
so I took a picture!
Once again, I saw the sign for Sobaeksan Guinsa.
I wanted to express how steep the path was,
but the photo didn't capture it well.
I thought about heading back,
but I was encouraged to drink some water and rest.
After taking a sip,
I hesitated but felt a sudden urge to keep going.
I wondered if I was being watched from somewhere?
Was it the monk? Haha!
I thought I was almost there,
but I had to keep climbing.
There are spots to rest with coffee as well.
The scenery felt exotic, like I was in a scene from Spirited Away.
Stay focused! I had to keep climbing!
I wondered why I was here.
Finally, I reached a wide area. Was I almost there?
But... I had to keep going.
Finally!
I reached a majestic place where I couldn't climb any higher.
But it wasn't the end...
I had to keep going.
I had climbed this much,
and I needed to climb even more.
Wow!
You have to see it in person.
It's truly magnificent.
Although I felt a bit scared,
it was still impressive.
The view below was breathtaking,
and I was glad I came.
This was the highlight of my Danyang trip.
I left a handprint that will soon fade away...
I noticed an elevator...
Really? Haha!
It was on the 7th floor.
I have no regrets.
But if you enjoy taking the monorail up the mountain,
you might want to use it!
Danyang Guinsa is a must-visit place.
If you visit Danyang,
make sure to check out Guinsa!
