A scenic view of the traditional Hanok architecture of Cheongun Literature Library nestled against the mountains

Located on Jahamun-ro in Jongno-gu, Seoul, the Cheongun Literature Library is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Nestled at the foot of Mount Bukak and Mount Inwang, this library is a beautifully preserved traditional Korean Hanok building, complete with classic tiled roofs and wooden-floored halls (Daechongmaru).

Visitors can enjoy a refreshing urban escape featuring a traditional garden, a charming pond, and the soothing sounds of a waterfall. It is widely considered a perfect place for a relaxing stroll, quiet study, or a unique romantic date in the heart of the city.

A Serene Sanctuary for Reading and Reflection

The library's design harmonizes perfectly with its natural surroundings. The main attraction for many is the Hanok Reading Room, where you can sit on the wooden floor and read while looking out at the mountains. The peaceful atmosphere is enhanced by the sounds of the nearby waterfall, providing a rhythmic backdrop for contemplation.

An impressive scene of the library's pond and traditional pavilion

Don't miss the main photo spot: the pond and waterfall, beautifully framed by a crepe myrtle tree. Capture a picture-perfect moment that captures the essence of Korean architectural beauty. A small pavilion in front of the waterfall offers a peaceful space for anyone to sit, relax, read, or simply enjoy the serene atmosphere.

Get off at the Yundongju Literature Museum stop. From there, it's a pleasant 10-minute walk uphill past Cheongun Park to reach this dreamlike sanctuary.
