Celebrating the March 3rd Festival

Hello, dear Buddhists!
Today is the 3rd day of the 3rd lunar month, known as Samwolsamjitnal.
Our Sejon Temple holds the "Jeoseokjae" ceremony every year on this day.
Jeoseok (帝釋) is believed to have originated from the Indian Vedic myth of "Indra" and refers to the guardian deity of Buddhism, the King of Heavenly Beings, who protects the Dharma.
This deity embodies the qualities of a "maintainer of cosmic order, moral overseer, and a benevolent celestial being."
The tradition of Jeoseokjae took shape during the Goryeo Dynasty, a Buddhist nation, where it was performed to wish for national peace and the well-being of the royal family, as well as personal blessings for offspring, longevity, and prosperity.
Our Sejon Temple continues the Jeoseokjae tradition, led by our esteemed monks, praying for the peace of the nation, its people, and devotees.
In times of national crisis, we put even more effort into the Jeoseokjae ceremony. This year, thanks to our great monk and the other monks, we successfully conducted the ceremony.
As wars rage in various parts of the world, claiming lives and causing chaos, we prayed for a swift return to stability. (A prayer text for Jeoseokjae will be uploaded soon!)
Thank you to the devoted members of Sejon Temple who worked hard from the morning to prepare for the ceremony, despite a few minor mistakes in the preparations. (The head monk is in tears!)
Next time, we will prepare more thoroughly to avoid any mistakes and ensure everything goes smoothly.
As soon as Jeoseokjae concludes, we will begin preparations for the Buddha's Birthday!
We are making lanterns for Buddha's Birthday by hand~ Today, we created flower petals!
Before Buddha's Birthday, our lay practitioners are working hard to tidy up the temple.
The final touches on Sejon Temple's "handmade cave" are currently underway, with waterproofing work in progress...
It was wonderful to see many lay practitioners gather after a long time. (Lay practitioners are always welcome!)
Our Sejon Temple will be busy until Buddha's Birthday.
I will keep you updated in real-time about the transformations happening at Sejon Temple to make it even cleaner and tidier.
As expected on Samwolsamjitnal, spring flowers are blooming beautifully in the Sejon Temple garden.
Whenever you need tranquility or a breath of fresh air, feel free to visit Sejon Temple!
