Modern and Contemporary Role: Having endured the Japanese colonial period and the Korean War, it established itself as a central temple of Buddhism in Seoul.

Present: The head temple of the 23rd district of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, a core training center for Buddhist activities in the Seoul metropolitan area.
