A truly special and complete healing experience through forest exploration and temple food immersion!
Experiential learning, a crucial pillar of school education, provides students with invaluable opportunities to step outside the classroom and directly engage with nature and culture.
Recently, students from Poseung Middle School visited Pyeongtaek Sudosa Temple for a unique program featuring forest exploration and temple food experiences.
At Pyeongtaek Sudosa Temple, Poseung Middle School students connected with nature in our serene and lush forest, purified their minds and bodies, and created unforgettable memories by preparing traditional temple cuisine.
Pyeongtaek Sudosa Temple is not only a historic site where the great Silla Dynasty monk Wonhyo attained enlightenment but also a renowned Gyeonggi Province-designated Slow Food experience center, preserving and offering hands-on experiences with nature-friendly environments and traditional temple food culture.
The forest exploration activity, in which the Poseung Middle School students first participated, went beyond simply walking along forest paths. It was a program designed to awaken the senses and experience the healing energy of the forest.
Escaping the noise of the city and the complexities of daily life, the students found peace of mind by breathing in the fresh air, listening to birdsong, and smelling the scent of trees in the forest behind Pyeongtaek Sudosa Temple.
Guided by a professional forest experience instructor, the meditation session provided Poseung Middle School students with valuable time to look inward and relieve stress.
It was a unique educational opportunity at Pyeongtaek Sudosa Temple, where students learned to pause in nature and realized the unity between nature and humanity through forest exploration.

The temple food experience that followed the forest exploration was the most interesting and beneficial time for the Poseung Middle School students.
Our temple food experience at Pyeongtaek Sudosa Temple is not simply a cooking class, but an educational opportunity to learn about Buddhist principles regarding food and cultivate character.
Temple food is the essence of slow food, avoiding meat and the five pungent vegetables (garlic, scallions, leeks, chives, and onions) and highlighting the natural flavors of seasonal ingredients.
Under the guidance of temple food experts, Poseung Middle School students prepared a variety of traditional dishes using fresh seasonal vegetables and natural ingredients.
In the process of preparing the food, they learned about gratitude for life, as well as care and consideration. Tasting the finished dishes, they realized the importance of healthy eating habits.

Officials from Poseung Middle School expressed high satisfaction, stating that the forest exploration and temple food experience programs at Pyeongtaek Sudosa Temple greatly contributed to the students' emotional stability and the development of creative talent.
Our experiential learning program at Pyeongtaek Sudosa Temple, where students experience harmony with nature and healing through forest exploration and learn about health and gratitude through temple food, provides profound educational value that is difficult to obtain in everyday life.

Pyeongtaek Sudosa Temple will continue to provide educational experiences that convey the preciousness of nature and the profound meaning of traditional culture to young people, who will lead the future, together with schools like Poseung Middle School.
