A Family-Friendly Historical Journey: Gochang Dolmen Museum

I recently visited the Gochang Dolmen Museum in Jeollabuk-do, a special place where you can embark on a historical journey with your children.
Located in the heart of the world's largest dolmen site, this museum is more than just a place to see artifacts. It's a comprehensive cultural space that combines exhibitions, hands-on activities, and video screenings.
1. 3D Animation ‘Eternal Love’
On the first floor of the museum, there is a theater showing 3D animation. The piece we watched with the children was 〈Eternal Love〉. Even though it was only a short screening of about 15-20 minutes, the impression it left was long-lasting.
The animation tells the story of love between Moro and Myorang, prehistoric people, and explains the meaning behind dolmens.
Thanks to the warm atmosphere and emotional direction, the children remained focused until the end, and even I, as an adult, felt moved.
It wasn't just about 'old stone tombs,' but a time to feel the lives and loves of the people buried within them.
2. Vivid Exhibition Space
1st Floor
The indoor exhibition hall consists of a special exhibition hall on the first floor, a permanent exhibition hall on the second floor, and an experience exhibition hall on the third floor.
What stood out in particular was the space that recreated the scene of transporting dolmens with life-size doll models. My child stood in front of it for quite a while.
2nd Floor
The space was decorated with an old-fashioned environment as the background, making it feel like watching a scene from actual history. Thanks to this, my child naturally asked, "How did they move this big stone?" stimulating their curiosity.
3. Hands-on Tables That Children Loved
On one side of the exhibition hall, there were also hands-on tables for children. They could color dolmen myth pictures with crayons or build their own dolmens by stacking blocks.
There weren't many activities, but they were simple and fun, so the children participated with interest. I especially liked how historical knowledge naturally permeated like play in the process of building dolmens with blocks.
4. Gochang Dolmen Museum Information

5. Final Thoughts
The Gochang Dolmen Museum in Jeollabuk-do was a family travel destination where you can enjoy not only viewing exhibits but also hands-on activities and emotional videos. There weren't many hands-on programs, but they were diverse, and the 〈Eternal Love〉 animation that I saw at the end perfectly filled the emotion of the trip.
If you're with children, historical study becomes natural play, and it's a place where parents can look back on the lives of people in the ancient prehistoric era. If you are planning a trip to Gochang, I highly recommend you visit!
