A Day in Daehangno: Comedy, Pizza, and Night Views

Last weekend, I dedicated an entire day to Daehangno. Back in my youth, it felt like a territory of dandelions... I wonder if today's friends know about it?
Anyway, I visited Daehangno with a special purpose after a long time: the Seoul Comedy Club! I heard that I could catch some hot stand-up comedy here, so I decided to check it out. The show was at 2:30 PM on Saturday, and since it was first-come, first-served for seating, those eager for front-row seats were lining up over an hour early. If you don’t want to wait, you can reserve a 220,000 won bottle seat. The power of money is undeniable...
Once inside, ordering drinks is a must. Don’t expect much from the prices, but the taste is decent. Since alcohol is the default, bringing an ID is essential!
After the show, there’s a photo time... The format consists of five freestyle comedians, and you really need to relax your brain and not take it too seriously to enjoy the laughs. If you’re in a serious mood or overthinking, it might not be for you.
If you just want to laugh without any thoughts, this is a great option!
Since everyone's stand-up comedy skills vary, if you’re a fan of someone, it’s best to catch their show in the right time slot. Personally, I saw Danny Cho's performance for the first time, and even though it was a solo stand-up, it was so good that I wanted to see more. I think American-style humor suits me... ^^
After enjoying a good laugh at the Seoul Comedy Club, I didn’t want to head home just yet, so I decided to explore the corners of Hyehwa-dong and enjoy my weekend. Daehangno has so much to offer, and the route I took this time perfectly connected food, relaxation, and night views, so I want to share it in detail.
First, I went to a place called Pizzeria O, a wood-fired pizza specialty restaurant. Its white exterior stands out from the entrance, giving a European vibe. This place is famous for having a chef who won a world pizza competition. The freshly baked pizza from the oven has a chewy crust and a delightful flavor. Especially, the signature menu, the O pizza, comes piled high with fresh arugula, cherry tomatoes, and cheese. One bite fills your mouth with fresh flavors. It’s not overly stimulating, but the natural taste of the ingredients shines through, which is why it’s consistently loved by couples on dates. After all, this place has been a beloved restaurant for a long time, and there’s a reason for that.
After the show, I usually feel a bit drained and want to relax, and that's when the cartoon cafe, Baltun, is perfect. It has cute beehive-shaped rooms stacked on top of each other, creating a cozy hideaway for us. There’s an overwhelming variety of comic books, but I was just lounging comfortably to recharge my energy. The highlight of a comic cafe is the snacks, and indulging in sweet treats makes you feel like you have everything you could wish for. It was just right to recharge with sweet snacks after laughing at the comedy club.
The final touch to the date is a stroll along the Naksan Park fortress trail. Usually, you can exit from Hyehwa Station's exit 2 and head towards the central plaza, which is the entrance to Naksan Park. As you climb a bit of a hill, a different world unfolds. At night, gentle golden lights illuminate the fortress, creating a truly romantic atmosphere. The city lights of Seoul twinkle like jewels beyond the fortress, and the Namsan Tower in the distance completes the night view. Walking slowly along the fortress trail while breathing in the cool night air naturally leads to serious conversations, allowing you to wrap up the day calmly. This place has a serene charm that contrasts with the bustling atmosphere of Hyehwa Station, making it a lovely spot to visit anytime. If you bring a car, be sure to park at the Naksan Park parking lot.
So, if you enjoy delicious pizza at Pizzeria O, relax at Baltun, and wrap up your day with the night view at Naksan Park, you’ll have a truly fulfilling day. If you’re planning a date in Hyehwa-dong, I recommend following this route.
