Korean has many words that sound similar but have completely different meanings depending on their spelling or conjugation.

1. 바래요 (baraeyo) vs 바라요 (barayo) vs 발해요 (balhaeyo)

(1) 바래요 — from the verb 바래다 (baraeda)

This has two meanings:

1. Color fading (to become discolored or faded)
     - Ex) If clothes are left in the sun for too long, their color fades.
     → 햇빛에 오래 두면 옷 색이 바래요.
    

2. To walk someone to a destination (to see someone off)
     - Ex) I walked my friend home.
     → 친구를 집까지 바래다 주었어요.

(2) 바라요 — from the verb 바라다 (barada)

This means "to hope or wish for something."

1. Wishing for something to happen
     - Ex) I hope you are always happy.
     → 항상 행복하길 바라요.

2. Wanting a state or condition
     - Ex) I hope children grow up on the right path.
     → 아이들이 올바르게 자라길 바라요.

2. 바람 (baram) vs 바램 (baraem)

    → I have a wish that you return safely.
    → 무사히 돌아오길 바라는 바람이에요.

• Wind or air flow
    → The wind is cool today.
    → 오늘 바람이 시원하네요.

(2) 바램 (baraem)

❌ This is incorrect. It’s a non-standard usage derived from 바래다, and is not accepted in standard Korean.

• Ex) Things went well according to his wish.
    → 그의 바램대로 일이 잘 풀렸다. (❌ Wrong)
    → 그의 바람대로 일이 잘 풀렸다. (✅ Correct)

3. 거예요 (geoyeyo) vs 거에요 (geoeyo)

These two look similar, but only one is correct.

(1) 거예요 (geoyeyo)

• Ex) This is my book.
    → 이 책은 제 거예요.

• Ex) It will be sunny tomorrow.
    → 내일 날씨가 좋을 거예요.

(2) 거에요 (geoeyo)
