The Winter Vacation History Reading Program at Yanggok Library(양곡도서관) offers a playful and meaningful way for children to enjoy books during the winter break. Designed for students in grades 2 to 4, the program blends reading, games, and creative activities.
Across three afternoons, participants explore history books, poetry, and storytelling while building confidence and curiosity through interactive experiences in a library setting.
A Winter Reading Program Designed for Young Learners
This winter vacation program invites children to experience reading in a lively and engaging way.
Rather than focusing only on reading quietly, the sessions encourage movement, discussion, and creativity.
It is a chance for young students to associate books with fun memories during their school break.
Program Dates, Time, and Location
The program runs for three days from January 20 to January 22, 2026.
Each session takes place from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
All activities are held in the seminar room on the first floor of Yanggok Library.
Who Can Join
The program is open to 15 students from grades 2 to 4.
This small group size allows participants to interact closely with instructors and peers.
Day 1: Getting Comfortable with Books and the Library
On the first day, participants begin by wearing bead heart necklaces, creating a sense of unity.
A guided library tour helps children become familiar with the space.
They then create their own reading notebooks using winter reading materials from the National Library for Children and Youth.
Day 2: History Quizzes and Team Activities
The second day focuses on group interaction and world history reading.
Children take part in quiz-based competitions using their bead heart necklaces.
Correct answers earn bead hearts, turning reading comprehension into a fun challenge.
Day 3: Poetry, Family Stories, and Sweet Memories
On the final day, participants read short and approachable poems by poet Na Tae-joo.
Inspired by family stories, they write their own short poems.
The program concludes with making chocolates and packaging them together with the poems.
