Pre-Program 'Poran' of the 14th Seoul Mediacity Biennale
Exhibitions, readings, talks, and lectures
The pre-program 'Poran' for the 14th Seoul Mediacity Biennale took place at the Nam Seoul Museum of Art from May 20 to July 5.
Designed as part of the preparations for the upcoming 14th Seoul Mediacity Biennale in 2027, 'Poran' reinterprets the various questions and discourses posed by the Biennale over the past 30 years. It aims to explore the conceptual evolution of the Biennale's themes and media practices in contemporary art.
'Poran' sought to explore the infinite spectrum inherent in art through a new format that combines exhibitions with reading performances. On May 22 and June 20, talks by film director Kim Tae-yong and urban political scientist Professor Shin Hye-ran were held, respectively.
The talk examined the process of reinterpreting one of the reading performance texts, 'Kkottu Story', as it was recreated through traditional Korean music theater, film, and picture books, discussing how the work expands and varies with changes in media. The lecture reflected on the essence of 'questioning' and explored how the sense of place in Seoul is formed through the process of place-making.
