A field sketch of the International Hangeul Promotion Forum.
On Thursday, September 11th, the 「International Hangeul Promotion Forum」 was held at the Jochiwon 1927 Art Center.
The theme was “HANGEUL RE:VIVE – Reviving Letters Through Art.”
The forum explored the value of Hangeul as a form of artistic writing, rooted in the spirit of the creation of Hunminjeongeum, and was an opportunity to discuss the direction of the upcoming 2027 International Hangeul Biennale.
Here’s a look at the atmosphere and content of the event!
The first session began with a keynote speech by Director Lee Dong-guk (Gyeonggi Provincial Museum, Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation).
He highlighted the spirit of Hunminjeongeum's creation and its inherent cultural significance.
It was a time to reflect on the profound philosophy contained within Hangeul.
Following the keynote, Dr. Park Ji-na (Visiting Professor, Hansung University College of Design) discussed the potential of Hangeul within its design value.
Kim Jong-won (President of the Korean Institute of Letter and Civilization) shared the position and meaning of Hangeul within the context of letter civilization.
LOW Eng Teong (CEO, National Arts Council Singapore) shared the intersection of letters and art, focusing on overseas examples.
Part 2 was moderated by Moon So-young (Editorial Writer, JoongAng Ilbo), who led a comprehensive discussion!
A serious discussion ensued regarding the future of Hangeul and its artistic expandability, viewed from each participant's area of expertise.
There were many moments that resonated with the audience.
This forum was not just a place to share academic discourse, but also a meaningful time to consider the direction of the upcoming 2027 International Hangeul Biennale.
As the saying goes, “Hangeul comes alive through art.”
It was very impressive to see experts from various fields discussing the future through Hangeul.
We will continue to promote the value of Hangeul and create various programs that citizens can participate in.
Thank you to everyone who joined us.
