Senior Space Nanal Book Cafe

On Wednesday, November 5th at 6 PM,

the grand opening of Senior Space, Nanal Book Cafe, took place! ✨

'Senior Space, Nanal Book Cafe' is envisioned as a senior community and library,

a community where seniors can engage in various activities such as reading, education, culture, hobbies, volunteering, and job connections,

and share their daily lives.

Despite the chilly weather, many people came to celebrate the new beginning, even at the late hour.

Friends, fellow teachers (both senior and junior), and students ranging from teenagers to adults all gathered to offer their support. 🎉

Parking is available at Garam Unjeong Library or Unjeong Station Public Parking (Gyeongui-Jungang Line).

Take Exit 1 and stand in front of the main entrance of Starfield Village.

You'll see Gangnam Myeonok to your left,

and diagonally to your right, on the corner of the intersection, you'll see Mongttang Dongsan (Hyeonhae Plaza) on the 5th floor.

"It's complicated, right? I'll use Naver Maps to find it.”

The book cafe owner texted this message, concerned that the 5th-floor location

might be difficult for first-time visitors to find.

Despite the late hour and long distances, many people from various places came to grace the occasion,

including those living their second lives joyfully and those who could be called elders of the era.

Although their age numbers were high, their thoughts and actions were active. 💪

In their congratulatory remarks and future plans,

<Nanal> became more than just a bookstore;

it became a new stage for the second act of seniors' lives.

In the late autumn darkness, the green-lit <Nanal> on the 5th floor of the commercial building,

greeted visitors with books as soon as they stepped out of the elevator.

Senior Space, Nanal Book Cafe,

introduced itself as a community space where seniors in their 50s and 60s share their daily lives,

“a senior community that plays, works, and volunteers together.”

Senior Space, Nanal Book Cafe,

dreams of being a 'community hub' where seniors living their 'second life' in this 100-year era

can continue learning, working, and building relationships,

not just a space for buying and selling books, but a complex cultural space.

Senior Space, Nanal Book Cafe, is a privately run space, not a public institution,

but they didn't hide their excitement about reopening, saying they plan to engage in various activities with seniors,

such as reading, education, culture, hobbies, volunteering, and job connections.

(*Senior Space Nanal opened last September but was not active due to the lack of a full-time staff.)

✅️The planning intention of Nanal Book Cafe is clear:

to redefine seniors not as 'a generation in need of help' but as

'subjects who share experience and wisdom.'

Beyond a simple leisure space, the vision is to create a platform where seniors can connect with society

and rediscover their value.

The manager of the social enterprise Senior Space Nanal Book Cafe said,

💬"How to spend 20-30 years after retirement is not just an individual problem but a social task.”

"Nanal aims to create an ecosystem where seniors are not isolated but continue to learn and grow,

and can share their experiences with the next generation," presenting the vision.

Looking at the 안내문 densely filled with events in November and December,

I saw the potential for the spread of Space Nanal as a sustainable model

along with content strategies tailored to the senior's perspective.✨

Watching people reorganize spaces and plan and implement programs in a senior-friendly way as a social enterprise

without large-scale facilities or huge budgets makes me think a lot about what our lives should be like in a super-aged society. 🤔

I hope that Senior Space Nanal Book Cafe will be visited by many people like today,

and that Nanal will provide an environment where multiple generations can come together.
